[Stephanie's not pouting. She's not jealous. No matter what he says] I just don't know if Rhonda's all that great for you. I mean, she...she wears a polka dot hat! [Totally grasping at straws]

A polka dot...what? Steph, it's a hat. You can't judge a person's character based on what kinda hat she wears.

Yeah well...who buys a polka dot hat? And she-- [Steph is running out of excuses] How serious is it getting?

[ayeayecap]

[He raises a brow.] Steph, when've I ever gotten serious with a gal? [Yeah, his current fling is a lot of fun, but he can't see himself falling in love with the gal. Too superficial. But still, a lot of fun.]

[msrogers]

I don't know. You're spending all this time with her and this is the third date you've gone on with her. [Anything past two dates sounds serious in Steph's ears]

[Well, anything past two dates is more serious than Bucky usually gets, true.] I like her. I really do. But we're just having fun. Nothing serious. If it'd put you to rest to meet her sometime- without the goofy hat- that would be fine as well.

[msrogers]

...What if I don't want to meet her?

Well, then, I don't know what to tell ya. You'll just have to deal with it.

[msrogers]

[She's torn. She wants Bucky to be happy. So she begrudgingly agrees] If she means that much to you...I guess I can meet her.

[And now he's letting out an exasperated sigh. He loves his friend to death, but she can sometimes be so damn clueless. Not that he's ever clueless, of course.] Don't throw around phrases like that. I don't know her well enough to care about her. [Okay, perhaps that's a lie. He is having fun with her, and he'd be sad if it ended tomorrow. But that's nothing on a childhood friend.]

But you'd like to. Second dates are rare, let alone third dates. And I guess...besides the polka dot hat, she's...okay. Pretty, even. [She shoves her hands into her coat's pockets. Don't pay attention to the rejection enlist paper that are crumpled up]

[He smiles, looking a little relieved.] She is pretty, isn't she? And don't worry. I'm a big boy; I can take care of myself.

[msrogers]

[she snorts] Yeah, that's what you think. Still slow on your left. She'll blinde-side you easy.

[ayeayecap]

[That gets a chuckle out of him.] So what, are you sayin' you need to babysit me, or what?

[msrogers]

I guess with someone else around, they can take some of that responsibility off my shoulders. [sounding casual so that she doesn't sound jealous anymore]

I like how you didn't address the babysitting part. [He laughs again, pulling Steph into his arms and mussing her hair.]
