#7 - road/plane/something-something trip?ofthefolkNovember 17 2012, 13:45:57 UTC
[ So, birthdays are apparently a thing - a big one, if the variety of cards and balloons at the store had been any indicator. Things had been different when he'd been younger, if only because times had been different.
In the end, he'd settled for something a touch unconventional - plane tickets to Italy. Which is what he is currently waving in front of Amanda's face in an attempt to get her attention. ]
Something-something trip it is. They need to make new terms, all of them.notveryfaeNovember 17 2012, 15:23:36 UTC
[They are when you're still in the double digits, notably if you're under 35. Amanda figures after a while she'll stop celebrating because it's easier for people to forget her birthday -- and her age.
The party she has is selective enough. Friends, family, and of course Aubrey. A little strange but he's there. And her attention has to spread because she's a hostess. So it takes a second to realize the paper in front of her face is something. So she'll accept it and unfold the envelope.] I'm going to assume this is four or five checks worth-
[Her voice cuts off, and she stares at the plane tickets.]
He is vehemently opposed to most major forms of transport, I've just realized.ofthefolkNovember 17 2012, 15:30:17 UTC
[ He would have found a way to include himself, regardless of invitation. That was just the way that he was - and, really, they had known each other long enough by now that she should know better than to try to keep him away. ]
Well, I could certainly take these back and give you the monetary equivalent if you prefer?
Flying box of death, driven box of death, box of death on a track of death. :|notveryfaeNovember 17 2012, 21:31:11 UTC
[Manda remembered that little thing about faeries from Sleeping Beauty, though Aubrey isn't a thing like Maleficent. (His Divaness would be much more feline than reptile.) You always invite faeries. It's just the look that her grandparents might shoot that she worries about. Though right now she kinda forgets about them.
Arms fling around his neck for an pounce of a hug, she barely has presence of mind to kiss his cheek rather than on the lips. Mostly so she can babble.]
Oh my God, Aubrey. Italy? Rome. Just Rome? Oh my God, Italy. Thank you! I've always wanted to go to Italy. Italy.
So many death boxes. :||||ofthefolkNovember 17 2012, 21:59:38 UTC
[ He had always been the sort to make off with the cake than cause any real disruption. Amanda was dear to him, after all - certainly more than he had anticipated was possible - and he was oddly elated by her response to the gift. ]
I remember you saying something about wanting to visit. [ But, of course, between one thing and the other it was unlikely that she would have ever had the chance. ]
Teach her to fly, Kitten. :|notveryfaeNovember 17 2012, 23:29:29 UTC
[She carefully takes out the ticket, as it will turn into smoke. Her heart hammers and she can't stop from grinning. Even as she discovers the ticket is First Class.]
Well, I just. Yes. Oh. Oh. Wow. I can't even English right now. I... [She takes a breath, gives him another kiss on his cheek, and with shaking hands she looks for somewhere to put it down.]
And yet, the Death Box. He will go on the Death Box.notveryfaeNovember 18 2012, 00:00:27 UTC
[She grins warmly, taking another breath.]
I just.
[She reads the tickets. Two. She's not going to say that out loud but...] I'm going to have to plan everything. Everything. I can't see everything in three weeks.
He will go on a Death Box. He will twitch and stuff, though. ofthefolkNovember 18 2012, 00:08:46 UTC
You'd be surprised what you can manage given sufficient motivation and a good guide.
[ The second ticket is not, in fact, meant for him. He'd certainly not turn it down if she offered but the point was to give her something special - something memorable. ]
She will feed him whiskey. And offer cuddles. And just say he's scared of flying.notveryfaeNovember 18 2012, 02:06:51 UTC
The question is to savor it or stuff in everything.
[For a moment, she wants ask him. She really does. He was ... was he there during the Empire? But she takes a quick look at her grandfather who is talking to one of her cousins and friends.
She looks a little caught. But as she glances at the tickets, she has.. a few months to decide.]
Kitten. She will protect you. :| And have an urge to itch. notveryfaeNovember 18 2012, 03:01:20 UTC
[Another quick kiss and a grin. She squeezes his hand before ambling over.
Lou is a man well set in his 70s, and does look a touch typical of a Brooklynite. Loss of hair, not terribly tall, glasses, and amused looking. Blue collar, he's laughing along with his wife when Amanda approaches. They speak lowly, and Manda shows them the tickets. Her grandfather shakes his head.
Manda glances at Mary, her grandmother, then holds out the tickets to both of them. Mary gives her granddaughter a sharp look and speaks just as sharply though the sounds of the party mutes most of it. Manda seems to sigh before walking back to Aubrey.]
It wil be a very tense few hours. And lots of bottles of whisky and girly drinks.notveryfaeNovember 18 2012, 16:50:30 UTC
Grandpa has spent years talking about going and seeing the sights of Italy. He said no. [She decides she might... not tell Aubrey about trying to con her grandmother to go. Who saw it clearly and snapped that two old people shouldn't waste tickets given to a young lady.]
