Kida Masaomi | Durarara!! | OTAmasaomiFebruary 4 2013, 14:57:22 UTC
1. I started an infamous color gang when I was still in middle school. 2. I'm a city boy, born and bred. 3. I fell in love with 37 girls during the school's opening ceremony this year.
Her guess had been made in jest, obviously. The little Camille knew of Masaomi, it didn't come as a surprise he'd fall in love with multiple girls at the same time. Even thirty-seven, though a high number it may be.
"Avoiding my question, or was it given that they'd all want to date you?"
Catfights over him? That would've been a sight.
"Your first option, a color gang, sounds ludicrous. It makes me think of crayons." She ponders for awhile. "But you did say middle school... maybe that part was untrue. Maybe it happened while you were in kindergarten?"
"Not avoiding anything! I only asked a handful of them," at least eight, "and I never got around to picking the one I wanted to go with." So he never bothered to hear their reply. Convenient, right? He wouldn't have minded if they'd solved the conflict through catfights, either...
"Crayons?" He tries to laugh, but it falls flat. It's a serious topic, after all. "You are new around here, aren't you?"
((Running with the idea that she's in his neck of the woods, but... if that's not OK, I can edit!))
"Okay. Well, next year you can up the numbers." She didn't know exactly how old Masaomi was, but if he didn't go to school anymore next year, then there could be university.
"The color gangs are nothing to laugh at. They're gangs of people who all wear the same color - or something in the same color, like a scarf or a bandana."
Remember the scarf he wore when you first met him? He's kind of hoping you don't...
"If you see a group of people like that, stay clear, alright? They can be dangerous."
He doesn't feel like flat-out lying to her, but he doesn't really want to confess to the more sordid details of his past, either. So watch him try to circle around the topic.
"Everybody can be dangerous, given the right circumstances."
"That's a pretty blah answer. Staying away from gangs, or rather, from any large groups of people is always a good option. No need for you to worry on my account there."
She thinks for a moment.
"Back to your three questions. There was something about you being a city boy. That should be true if your lie was the fact that you didn't start one of these gangs. Correct?"
Sure, it's sound advice - but anyone laughing at a color gang can use a little nudge in the sane direction. He's glad that she's listening to him, though.
All the relief. Just go and get distracted by the one seemingly normal option in there!
"No - I either started a gang or grew up a city boy. Either or!"
"Hmph." Camille looks at him, eyes slightly narrowed. As far as she's concerned "Two Truths and a Lie" is just a game. It's possible to state three insignifant things; nobody's forcing you to mention things you don't want to talk about. If Masaomi did that and is now uncomfortable admitting it... Not that she knows he's doing it.
"You sort of said the lie might be that you didn't start a gang, but... I'm guessing you have some connection or interest with them since you mentioned them in the first place."
She doesn't want to out him for no good reason, though.
"Or you're not a city boy. And that might be why you're interested in these gangs. It's something you didn't have back home. Alright, I'll go with that. You grew up in the country."
Hey, he's not used to being called on his bullshit! In his experience, the more out there what you say is, the less likely people are to listen. And of course most everybody who knows him knows he's prone to ridiculous exaggerations... which helps.
"Ah, to have such intelligence to match your beauty..."
He doesn't sound too happy about it, just because he feels busted. But hey, he's not going to say she's wrong when she's not. Besides, she seems eager to downplay his role in the gang business - and that's fine by him.
"Correct! I've only been here a couple of years, myself."
"What would I do without your flattering, I do not know."
Camille smiles. She detects the brief change of tone in his voice but doesn't think there's anything significant behind it. This is a city, there are gangs. It's normal and none of her concern. There's little reason to think any gang members would find her interesting enough to harrass.
"Where did you come from then? Was your childhood home actually in the countryside or just in a smaller town?"

"Oh, and did they all fall for you as well?"

To be fair, there were a large number of kids in that auditorium. Still, 37 was undoubtedly pushing it...

"You just said you started one of these gangs. Are you dangerous?"
Masaomi looks... absolutely harmless.
