Guess who is lurking in the console room, fuming at the tomfoolery of you two? You just don't appreciate what he's done for you, do you? No. You don't.

She doesn't look particularly bothered, her legs crossed calmly from her place on the jump seat, watching him darkly, and occasionally flicking her eyes to Handy. Patiently. Like she's babysitting. Indulging them, really.

He didn't even notice the two of them, actually. Not yet. He was too focused on the TARDIS screen and the readouts it was spitting out at him. Concern twitched on his brow, and he blinked as he re-ran the scan again.

"I don't mean to alarm anyone, but we've seemed to...stop. Just in the middle of the time stream, like something just reached out and grabbed us. But there's nothing there. Just....really weird readings."

Oh he does not appreciate the way that neither of them still seem aware. Oh, Rose is watching him, but apathetic. As if she's the one who's the superior one. They're both so casual, as if he's not the last thing either of them have in the universe.

"The readings are fine."

She swayed her foot casually, quirking an eyebrow at the Time Lord. He wasn't allowed to get tetchy with the Metacrisis. He simply wasn't.

"Watch your tone." She scolded mildly, like a mother snapping at a child and just expecting them to obey.

Nope, still no idea. Though, he was starting to get an inkling at that rather quick slap down from his duplicate...Blinking, he glanced over is shoulder.

"No, no there's something very wrong going on he-"

Rose cut him off and he snapped his mouth shut as he turned to look at her, startled. "Rose? Umm...okay..."

Oh, she did not just draw his ire. For now his other self could wait, because clearly someone's forgotten how their friends and family abandoned them. "Watch yours, Rose. Don't forget who you're talking to."

She pushed off the seat, sparing Handy only half a glance. She cocked her head at the Doctor. "Excuse me. What did you just say? Oh, no. No, I don't think that's gonna fly. Sit down."

Oh. Oh dear.

He looked between the two of them for several long moments, eyes wide. They'd gone completely mental, the two of them. For a moment, he thought about stepping between them to try and separate them...

But the TARDIS beeped at him and he turned to scan the readouts.

"Oh, this isn't good..."

He ignores the Metacrisis for now. He'll deal with him in a moment. Rose clearly needs his immediate attention. "Oh, no, I don't think so. Whose TARDIS are you in, Rose? Whose home is this? Which of us could chuck you out anywhere in this universe and you'd have nothing and no one to go to? If anyone gives the orders here, it's me."

The poor Metacrisis would have to find a way to sort it out. And really, it's a good thing the TARDIS stopped him, or he'd have just been pointedly shoved out of the way.

She stepped forward challengingly, pulling herself up to her full height, and let out one short, derisive laugh. "It's adorable that you think that, Doctor, it really is. I think maybe you're forgetting who you belong to. My Doctor. You belong to me. He belongs to me. Now sit. Down."

....He honestly didn't think anyone in their right mind would blame him for not stepping in the middle of them at the moment. The tension behind him was enough to set his hackles on end and he had to swallow twice before his hands would work enough to bring up the full list of details.

"Radiation. We're stuck in a pocket of mind altering radiation. That's just wonderful." He glowered at the screen, not even bothering to try and figure out why he wasn't affected. He was a hybrid, after all. Things didn't effect him like they effected his two genetic halves.

Oh. No. She does not get to challenge him.

"Your Doctor?" He laughs, and shakes his head. "As if you're the only human who's ever traveled with me? The only person I've ever been fond of? Rose, you're just a human. You're not even a remarkable human. You're a cute little shop girl that I took in. You're the little nineteen year old who had nothing. And you still have nothing. Do you think anything's changed since that boy took you for all of your money and left you behind like the unremarkable, bottle blonde shopgirl you are?"

He scoffs and waves a hand. "There's billions of girls exactly like you in the 21st century and on Earth alone! Look how quickly and how happily your mother left you behind once she had anything else. Look at Mickey! He's in this universe now, but do you see him knocking? Even calling? No! He's moved on now, with someone who's actually remarkable." He shakes his head, just...disgusted. "You don't own anything, Rose. The only thing that makes you any different from anyone else is that I chose you. Now sit down ( ... )

She didn't even acknowledge the radiation. It didn't even hit her ears, because he wasn't important right now. He was behaving.

The Time Lord, though? She gave him all of three seconds to stare at her after he finished his little speech before she backhanded him. She didn't slap him. She backhanded him.

Rather than backing off after that, though, she stepped further into his personal space, and pressed a finger against his chest. "Do you think your words actually mean anything? If you were a person, it would hurt. If you were in any way redeemable, it would hurt. And you're gonna be paying for that. But first, let me tell you something. You're not a person. You're a nothing. You're not allowed to have opinions. You stopped counting as a man when you committed genocide. You stopped being functional the second you did that, and you became my responsibility. My property. I took you because no one else would. Because someone has to keep you from killing everything else in the universe. You're not a person. You're a mad dog that I kept ( ... )

He was behaving....but he wasn't working. The TARDIS was beeping at him, but his focus was entirely on the two people he loved. Or rather, their words. Their words aimed at eachother.

And, in some sick way, at him. Because he was his duplicate. They were, for all intents and purposes, the very same man...so everything that was coming out of the Time Lord's mouth, was coming out of his and he just wanted to be sick at the mere thought. And, of course, every single insult Rose threw right back...well, it all hit home in a way that made his chest ache and his lungs burn and he could almost feel the chill of the planet he'd gone to to die....
