Do you have any or know where I might find recipes for nutritious dishes that could be prepared at home in -- hum, thirty minutes to an hour? I'm trying to incorporate healther and more filling meals into my daily routine by, uh, preparing healthy, filling lunches to bring to work the night before I go to work. Any help would be wonderful and ( Read more... )

Stir fry. Most of the work is chopping stuff up -- which can be mitigated if you go for frozen vegetables* and stir-fry meat. I think they taste fine reheated, since my normal cooking strategy is to cook on Sunday, then microwave leftovers for the rest of the week.

I also have a Thai curry recipe that takes thirty minutes to cook and tastes good reheated, though some of the ingredients are a pain to get.

If you have a microwave, you can pre-make microwave bean burritos. Get a package of the tortilla wraps you prefer (I like the large, flour kind with tomato or spinach coloring/flavoring). Get a can of the bean-mix you prefer (Tacky, er, Taco Bell vegetarian is about the same as Tacky Bell low-fat, I find). Get a package of cheese -- regular, shredded, string-cheese, whatever ( ... )

Get a rice cooker. That simplifies things greatly.

Rice cooker! Got it. (I mean, I get what you are saying. I have not actually purchased a rice cooker at this point in time. Just to clarify!)

Thank you!

You can make a bunch of stuff in it, but the main thing is: nice, healthy Rice whenever you want with only the effort it takes to measure out the right ratio of water and rice.

There is no better quick-recipes cookbook than Nigel Slater's Real Fast Food. The food is good, it's interesting to read, and it has the added bonus of being a cheap paperback.

Excellent! The local bookshop didn't have it, but I've ordered a copy and it should arrive in the next week or so. Thank you! *hearts*

I don't even want to imagine Hulk Hogan trying to sell me a grill. I won't do it! You can't make me! I live in a No Hulk Hogan Zone! Aaaaaaaaaaaugh.

Oh! They have a grill for $25! "Perfect for Students and Singles," the website says. Hmm! That is a convincing tagline...
