Seventy-two. Aphrodite, don't forget me.

Right now, I am the cheerleader for everyone else's romance. I'm working on setting up friends with other friends and playing confidante for established relationships, watching happy people learn to fall in love with one another or to work out how to make their love last through troubles, and encouraging people to go on dates and risk their hearts ( Read more... )

Man. Yeah I get a lot of this either being there currently or having been there before. I miss you and I do think things will fall into place for you. You're one in a million, Mena, and you will get what you deserve. I have faith.

Or I will join a convent. They would probably still take me. I could be the really hot nun.

I'd become a cat lady for real but you'd object, and that would be bad. I have to pick you over the kitties.

I realize I'm being facetious, but it's either laugh at myself or weep and moan even more than this whole post of self-pity.

I hate these stupid scars and I want to be healed already, even though leaping forward even a little makes them hurt again.

Do I ever know exactly how you feel on that one, Mena. But I think you're a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for.

Even strong people can have a big ol' dose of self-pity. Which is really where I'm at, and I hate that, too. I miss being carefree about this sort of thing. Although maybe I'm fooling myself; I'm not sure there ever really were carefree days, just ones with different concerns.

I know what it is to be the cheerleader. After a few heartbreaks of my own, I decided that I wanted to make sure that I was all right enough on my own. Seeing my friends happy makes me happy, you know?

"Dating" in itself is a terrible word. Joaquin Phoenix said, "Dating to me is sorta embarassing. I mean you're putting yourself out there... for what? A chance at finding the right one. A chance of heartbreak." I have to agree with him. I think we all have had our share of heartbreaks and see dating as it source of all our tears. Naturally the "d"-word makes us cringe ( ... )

That's it exactly. If my friends are going to be happier, I'm going to be happy. That's my theory.

Joaquin hits the nail on the head. Dating is such a risk. It's a highwire act we never know we're doing until we actually have a fall.

I think I'm more mouthy than strong, but thank you.

I've considered the virtues of the one-night stand, but it's hard to get my mind past the ideas of the sides of it that don't appeal to me. It seems so frivolous, and I work so hard never to be frivolous. There, that might explain some of my problem.

Interesting. I always end up being the mascot of some sort.

But are there little mascot costumes involved?

...scratch that, I don't want to know. I think I'm in the same position, anyway.
