Also, after all of the FooFails on LJ lately (including on my LJ), this authentically made me smile.

I dislike that a lot of media is emphasizing that the vaccine is ONLY 30% effective. Yea, it could be a lot better, but Hell, 30% is better than 0%.

30% is 'works even a little'. Big difference between 'doesn't do a damn thing' and 'works even a little'.

I'm confused about how they know it's doing any good; 70-something people with the placebo contracted HIV, and 50-something from the vaccine group did. That isn't much of a difference. That could be chance. Am I missing something?

Statistical analysis determines how unlikely it is that the result would occur by chance.

Ok. While I admit that the cloth itself is kinda cool (looks and property wise), that article just made my arachnophobia go into overdrive. I got very creeped out by the idea of spider silk touching my skin. Not to mention the picture of the person holding the spiders. *shudders*

The spiders are so cool.

But I really love the autistic business - it's a hard sell, but autism really is an advantage in some areas. (The same is true of certain other mental disorders, but they're often easier to treat and/or more diverse in effect, like ADD.)
