Why do I always fall for fictional men?

And why don't they become real and fall in love me?

On an Austin kick right now so Knightly, Darcy, and Fitzwilliam are on my mind, but recently several others have been brought to my attention.  Curiously all from other novels but generally the same era.

Because he is charming and personable and lovely, despite his minor role.

He is always overshadowed by Darcy and to some extant Bingley and Whickham. He is just the nice, kindly, etc, gentleman in the background that helps the plot along. Too bad he is a younger son. We must find him someone proper.
