Pain is easy to write. In pain we're all happily individual. But what can one write about happiness?
I just finished listening to Graham Greene's The End of the Affair, read by Colin Firth. It's an incredibly sad story, miserable and hateful and heartbreaking by turns, yet I did find parts of it very relatable. Most particularly, I keep thinking about Sarah's diary. I am so. lonely. that I am finally, seriously considering caving and getting a pet. I have been resolute that I should not get a pet as long as I am in the military. Or at least as long as I am single in the military. I work long hours, and I travel a lot; I am not home enough to give a pet the amount of attention it needs. Plus, pets are ( Read more... ) -

Most random thing ever: I've just re-discovered e e cummings. I don't know how I'd forgotten (or perhaps never realized?) how delightfully, novelly insightful his work is. Pink Martini is wonderful. Even without China Forbes (so sad), they were wonderful. Thomas Lauderdale is adorable. Storm Large is incredible. Ari Shapiro (NPR White House correspondent) sang several songs. (I hadn't realized, but one of my favourite songs from the Splendor in the Grass album was actually written for him.)
