Absolutely beautiful. I love the ending. I love the manic energy of the action and how it doesn't let up, and the danger is real and consequential.

I love how Chekov carefully takes his boots off before getting into bed with Sulu.

I love this: He’s managed not to die again.

Wow, thank you! I think this is one of the most straight-up action-y stories I've written and I was definitely worrying about how it would come off. So I'm very glad to hear that worked. Thank you so much.

I almost didn't read this, as I thought it too likely to end up being pointlessly gory or unvividly described, but I noticed who wrote it and thought, "mercaque is good, she can pull this off." You have fulfilled my faith and exceeeded all my expectations! I am astounded by how well you wrote this, its palpable horror, no punches pulled and yet balanced very, very well, and oh, Hikaru, brave and noble and so selflessly in love.

You use of language here is elegant and vivid all at once, too. ..since he doesn’t react so much as detonate. absolutely took my breath away. This whole story did.

Holy cow! I am hugely flattered that you gave my story a shot. Truth be told, I went past this prompt a couple of times on the kink meme because I had similar reservations about the subject matter. I also don't like pointless gore - in fact there were a couple of sequences and details I took out because it was starting to become a wallow. At the same time, I didn't want to wuss out in depicting the Reavers. So it's really, really good to hear that balanced out because that was definitely a big concern.

Poor Sulu, I like the contrast between his relative normalcy/awkwardness and the batshit/brave space jump.

Oh my goodness, this is the kind of action I wish I could write. It's taken much, much too long for me to get around to reading this, but this was absolutely, completely worth every moment waiting. I know virtually nothing about Firefly, but I did a quick Google search and they are utterly terrifying in this. This is completely macabre and horrifying, but you still manage to balance that with beautiful characterization, perfectly on-point prose, and a delicacy that most can't muster. I really love the idea of super-nerd Sulu somehow picking up this BAMF reputation, and then both he and Chekov living up to it.

Oh gosh! Thank you and I'm glad you did come back to it :D Truth be told, I feel like I am kind of squeamish and tend to rely on dialogue more than action, so this was kind of an experiment in story-writing. It is a relief to know it was OK.

Nerd!Sulu is totally my headcanon and I LOVE IT. I love Sulu Prime, but Reboot!Sulu's awkward streak is really endearing to me. And Chekov, I tend to think of him as making up for any lack of physical prowess with scrappitude. Team Gold (or 2/3 of it) ftw!

Loved this so much! I like gorey but it's so hard to write. However you pulled it off fantastically. Seriously, I teared up a little when Chekov was banging on the escape pod. Beautiful! ♥

Thank you so much. With gorey stuff it's hard to know if it's over the top sometimes, so I'm glad that worked :) On second thought, it feels sort of weird to say that about gore, but you know what I mean, lol.
