Review of the Quarter

I think the cultural adjustment challenges that I predicted for myself at the beginning of the quarter are about the same now. I know that I will struggle with being outgoing and confident in my ability to communicate with others and have to push myself sometimes to engage instead of retract. I also don't like the idea of getting in trouble while abroad but I think that it will be easier and less stressful if you look at it like it will happen regardless. Another good type of person to tell your travels to is someone who just in general enjoys traveling. That type of person loves to hear about other peoples travels and will have some good stories of their own.

You will inevitably make mistakes. The important thing is to not think so much about them. After you come to the realization that you messed up, accept it. Try not to delve into thinking thoughts like "how does this make me look?", "how will this affect the rest of my exchange?" and just calmly tell yourself that there is not that much damage done, and if there is any damage done, relax and think of ways to repair them. Admit that you were wrong and move on. For myself I find this is the hardest thing for me to do, because I will always obsess over my mistakes and blow them out of proportion. But this is not progressive in any way, even when it confusingly feels right to try and fully understand every detail of what went wrong. Accept it and move on, and hopefully you will have learned from it not to make the same mistake again ( ... )
