i'm really sick and have done basically nothing but lay around for the past five days, so i've had a lot of time to think. i can't wait to go to rome and actually be somewhere with a history! we do not have a history. we have less than 250 years. we're hardly even a blip on the radar of human history and it disgusts me that we think so highly of ( Read more... )

hey syd,
okay, granted i only studied in the UK, and granted it was only for half a year, but it kind of made me appreciate the US a lot. I thought we weren't nearly as important as our gov. thinks we are, but honestly, we have a LOT of sway--mainly becuase we have the largest military and have the resources and the desire to involve ourselves in foreign affairs. Also, I was really surprised at how many things I realized really were a part of "American Culture". Not all of them are good, but being away for a while made me realize that we are a country, one with flaws and one that pisses me off a lot of the time, but still one that has influenced me in many many ways.

and i totally agree and respect that. it just scares me how much power we've gained in such a comparatively short period of time. hope all is well with you! :D

Sounds mostly like my thoughts before I left for Ecuador. And being there only reinforced my thoughts. Sure, we're lucky to have been born in the U.S. but I'd rather live anywhere else. Except of course that you are here!

Oh... and you didn't miss too great a party last night. Random people and they didn't seem to be having a whole lot of fun. Well, I went to bed at 12 so maybe it got crazy after that... but I doubt.
