At least when liberals are losing an election to forces they fear will turn the country into a fascist nightmare (what? that didn't already happen decades ago?) they start talking about leaving and going somewhere else, usually Canada. Or for the fancy, Europe. (I don't know, personally I always fondly ponder Mexico or Japan, but I guess I can't ( Read more... )

i actually know a few people who left the country (to ireland, spain, and the netherlands) after bush won in 2000. i really think less of them for it because instead of staying and trying to fight for what they believe they threw a hissy fit and left.

that said, it sounds like that dude would have done this already, he just moved up his timetable. i used to work for a place that made stickers for a local militia and some of those guys had been living in their own "compound" like homes since reagan was in office.

this is the first election i'm seriously considering voting for a third party because both guys running are total douchebags.

do you know that there's an actual movie about a dude who follows through on a drunken promise and moves to Canada after Bush gets re-elected in 2004? i haven't seen it but apparently it's a romantic comedy. and it's called Blue State. no joke.

Seriously, it seems hardwired into the American Dude Dream to fantasize about needing to shoot people and hide under a rock. Sorry, Mr. Unknown Blogger, you will spend the Obama presidency showing up for work and cranking on the Internets, and nothing particularly bad will happen to you. Cool?

Best,

I fantasize about Canada because the climate is more to my liking. And if you move to the places in Canada where the jobs are (TO, Montreal, Vancouver), there really is not the lily-white that you get in the rest of the country. TO is very diverse, with a lot of Caribbean black immigrants. Vancouver has a healthy number of Asians, and Montreal requires at least some facility in French. Not like Quebec, mind you, but still ( ... )
