Also, check out the NY state exit polls. McCain only won Republicans - no other demographic group.

I find this very depressing. I can't believe I'm no longer a member of the youth demographic.

yeah. but now people are blaming black and latino voters for passing propositions eight and four in california. which is so fucked up, and makes me so nervous.

Four looks more like it's not going to pass, no?

As for eight, the exit polls show that yeah, a whole lot of black folks don't like gay marriage, especially women. It's only like 5% of the total vote, but that's more than enough in a close call like this one. This shouldn't come really as a huge surprise and I agree with Pam Spaulding -- the gay marriage movement is really white. It was when I worked in it and as far as I can tell it still is, and not enough has been done to educate POC communities and support queers of color. A lot more money has been spent shoring up support amongst white liberals and knocking on the doors of power -- gee, doesn't help as much in a ballot initiative, huh?

Anyone who wants to blame the 5% of voters that are black and voted for the measure, as opposed to... oh I don't know, the 28% of the voters that are whtie and voted for the measure, is probably either stoking some racist fires in their own heart or is just taking black folks' liberal votes for granted. Which is stupid.

I just saw a report on CNN while I ate my lunch that Obama, while he didn't win more than 50% of the white vote, he won MORE of the white vote than even Clinton did (maybe except one election where he had the same, can't remember). White people just don't vote Dem. The last time Whites favoured a democrat, was Carter, I think.

Actually, it was Johnson in 1964. I think that Obama's share of the white vote was the highest since Carter.
