[ DRAFT 13 ] Termination

Jan 11, 2010 00:46

[Meth clears her throat, and there's the rustle of papers in the background. Her tone is flat, as she seems to be reading off of said papers. It is my duty to inform the passengers that Mihaila Nerlavwa's contract with Captain Redd has been terminated, and as such has left the ship. All passengers with specific dietary needs will continue to find ( Read more... )

Mar, really? How disappointing.

[There's a hint of amusement in his tone.]

She was my favorite.

Was she now? I'm sure the Captain is terribly sorry to disappoint you but it was simply unavoidable.

Mm-hm, of course it was.

So how did you kill her?

[Snort.]

I didn't kill her. Captain had her removed from the ship.

Is that so? Under what grounds was her contract terminated?

[He only met her once, and it wasn't a good meeting, so he doesn't particularly care about Mihaila herself. Still, he's interested in what this might reveal about the way the crew works.]

Mm, she was serving food to the passengers that she shouldn't have. Captain took exception to that.

Ah.

[Somehow, Phoenix doubts that Redd cares at all about what the passengers eat. It's more likely that this woman is feeding him a vague line that can be interpreted as just about anything - which meant there was probably something unpleasant that she was trying to avoid or cover up.

Phoenix had an idea he knew what that was.]

I take it, then, that we're not likely to see her again.

It's unlikely.

[Zelda isn't foolish. She can cleverly deduce what happened or theorize, or any number of things with a little observance. That's... horrifying, at the very least.]

So I see...

[Aw Zelda, Meth hasn't talked to you in a while.]

Mhmm.

Getting along alright lately, Princess?

[Meth is so casual, so nonchalant. It... throws Zelda through a few loops. She's never disliked Meth, of course, but all of this...]

I... seem to be all right. In comparison with others, I am fortunate, I think. How do you do, Miss Meth?

[Meth's been a bit erratic lately. Strange ups and downs. Some slight behavioral changes. This appears to simply be one more.]

Fine here. Fortunate how?

"Terminated," hmm?

[Her amusement at euphemisms momentarily overcomes her distaste for Meth.]

[Huh. The Major is actually speaking to her. Curious.]

Yes, terminated. Her work was unsatisfactory.

I'm afraid I wouldn't know anything about that.

[Kusanagi's sense of taste is mediated through her cyberbrain, and thus she can't "taste" anything she didn't eat before she was cyberized as anything but a chemical readout.]

That's a phrase I never expected to hear from the Major XD metharchy January 11 2010, 21:27:03 UTC
Hmm. I suppose not.

Oh what a dreadful loss. She was such wonderful conversation! And so polite too!

[Your sarcasm is dripping, Remy]

[Meth grinned.]

She made me look absolutely charming, didn't she?
