I've recently started working at a call centre. Up until now it's been surprisingly alright. However that's because I've been doing training for the last five weeks. Today was my first day on the phones. Today, I hated it so bad, I'm not sure I can last. But I'm not a quitter so I'm going to keep trying. If I can't do something, I like to get ( Read more... )

You know, your voice is high-ish. I worked in a call center for about a year and got ma'am'ed pretty regularly, too. I know it's much easier to say that to do, but don't take it personally. They can't see the beard, the adam's apple, the anything...

And you know, at least you won't have to explain to anyone that Canada's not part of the U.S.!

I worked at a call center when I first moved to Calgary for a few months, and honestly the ma'am thing is nothing to worry about.
Confusion happens all the time, and I had coworkers who weren't transgendered called by the wrong gender all the time.
But yeah, most of the people at the call center I worked at were university students who liked the hours. (5-10pm)

I'm happy you found someone to be a support to you in your new job. I adored working in a call center, I miss the job very much. But, I know how stressful it can be, too. I hope the job works out and congrats on your new apartment, that's exciting! :)
