Might be a fast and loose take with Hohenheim's history, but it's definitely an interesting one. I also really like your theory on 'The Truth'. That it's the Gate's shadow. You're writing style is excellent it really draws me in to the story.
On the nature of the GatemfelizandyApril 8 2008, 17:10:55 UTC
The Gate gave me some trouble, in formulating this story. On the one hand, I really like the manga-verse image of the grinning inky thing that calls itself Truth. On the other hand, I needed the Gate to also be something that could be traveled through, as in the anime. So I mashed the two canons together and let Hoho and "Truth" demonstrate just how fey and dangerous it is to mess with the Gate. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the compliment!
That was wow, totally worth the long but super interesting buildup! XD
Intriguing confrontation with Fullmetal and I loved the myth about Hoho. ^^
Man, I hadn't even thought about those possible implications for 'first mirror' Ed & Al, mainly because Roy has been a sort of focal point. Got to love those twists.
Absolute fav line that cracked me up? -> “there's got to be something that doesn't sound like the plot of a stupid fiction novel.” *snigger*

I just can't resist a little "cracking the fourth wall", and Ed is a perfect character to do it. Punning on Mustang's name is another of my weaknesses.
Making up mythology wholesale is something else I love doing, and Hoho has the panache and the straight face to carry it off.
There are lots of implications of time travel for first-mirror Ed and Al, as well as for Roy. The problems of paradoxes and the limitations of alchemy are going to have to be laid out somewhere, and I think Hoho will probably be the one to explain them.
There will be at least one more confrontation between Hughes and FullMetal. Stay tuned.

Yep, I'm still liking this story. "Roy Mustang has come unstuck in time." Looking forward to the complication of another mirror. And I'm not sure I want to find out what happened in Mirror Two to make Ed become the creature he has. I mean, it sounds like there, all alchemists are criminals, so there's def. something up.
There are hints!mithluinApril 8 2008, 16:42:22 UTC
There is a hint of what happened to Ed in Part 2, and another in this bit--notice the stats Hughes has on him. *Evil chuckle.* I'll probably drop some more hints later on.
In this particular mirror, the State Alchemists are bound much more tightly to Bradley in terms of their loyalties than they are in the canon story. The likes of Alex Luis Armstrong and Roy Mustang simply couldn't exist within the hierarchy. Zolf J. Kimbley is much more the norm, among the State Alchemists--who aren't dogs so much as the rabid wolves of the military.
As for being unstuck in time--if I can manage it, someone will be, and some of those mirrors are going to get just a little bit cracked.
Well now, what do you see?militsaApril 8 2008, 16:54:07 UTC
Psycho-Ed is fairly disturbed, yes. Considering that canon Ed was obsessed and "high-strung", to put it gently, it's not too much of a stretch to picture what would happen if certain events happened just a little bit differently. There's a hint of what happened to Ed in Part 2, and there's a very, very small one (smaller than canon Ed at thirteen) in this bit. I'll probably illuminate more of his backstory as the story goes along.
Now--because I'm curious, what would you guess I'm setting up? I'd like to know whether I've been dropping hints that point in the right direction, for one thing. For another, it's happened in the past that a reader's idea is better than what I had planned. (I do credit people who give me ideas I like.)
