So in follow up to yesterday's post: the brakes were shot, there was something wrong with the transmission, and the battery was failing. I bought the truck (a 2008 Ford Ranger) in 2013 and haven't had any maintenance issues with it before, so I suppose it was only a matter of time before things started to fall apart. Anyway, now I am much poorer ( Read more... )

Yay for safety! I'm curious to learn which activity you pick. I enjoyed seeing everyone's ideas.

I send good vibes that your tax return covers all the costs!

I drive a 95 Saturn sedan with 207,000+ miles on it, so I understand where you're coming from!

That's a good amount of time to pass before something needed replaced and it's alway better when they catch things before they become an issue.

It wasn't until last year I finally purchased a new(er) car. I'd had my little Cavalier for 12 years 170,000+ miles so I feel your pain. The last year I had her was the year of mechanical problems(nothing too expensive thankfully), but I knew it was time to trade her in.

Ah yes, vehicle maintenance. I have a 2005 Chevy and it's coming up to time for brakes, tires, and who knows what else. I have been really faithful with routine maintenance so hopefully there won't be any major surprises when I take it to get the oil changed and see if the brakes and tires are ready to be changed.
I actually got my taxes done early this year. Am expecting federal this coming week. That will take a big bite out of the fixing.
