last year about this time, i went to target and bought what i can only call a jambox. it was $20 and generic and i bought it solely for shower-time listening. shortly into our relationship i began to wonder if said jambox was haunted. i began to wonder about the ghost in my jambox- why did it skip that one song on that one cd?? why did it skip that ( Read more... )

this is so funny, but especially because les husbou and i literally JUST had a conversation this last weekend on how we were the cassette tape doctoring masters. when my ghetto ghettoblaster ate my GnR tape, i was hunched over it for hours with eyeglasses screwdrivers, hand-winding the tape together. les husbou was the cutter/splicer/taper. too funny.

as a summer project a few years ago, i took it upon myself to find and download the songs on my favorite mixed tapes and convert them to cd. it's nice and all but totally not the same as having an actual tape.

back when i still has VHS tapes, i was splicing left and right. when the tape itself is an inch wide it's an easy task. cassette tapes though! i seriously felt like a surgeon with sweat on my brow. in hindsight it's actually kind of fun... too bad there's no money in such endeavors!

i've thought about making cd's of my mix tapes but... i'm lazy.

I'm sitting here waiting for a call that was supposed to happen six minutes ago, and I thought to myself "I wonder how Allison is getting along?". So I logged onto LJ to find ... this!

There must have been a disturbance in the force!

I can re-record the tape. No worries. In fact, I've picked up lots of ace stuff lately and was thinking it was probably time for a fresh cassette. In FACT, I've been thinking about getting a soundcard for my laptop so I can hook it up to my decks and record straight to CD. So many people now just don't do cassettes any more. I'd been thinking it was their loss, and they'd come round but there's no sign of them recanting.

So, how are you getting along?

hello you! i trust you're getting along well? myself, i've had a touch of the stomach flu and was out of work the last few days (weekend included). i'm coming back to normal though, slowly but surely.

as for the tape, i was able to re-record it and the force must have come back up because even though i had to remove copious amounts of tape i can't even tell where... it's the darndest thing- i listened to it yesterday and there was no discernable break in song on either side. the chances of my cutting exactly between songs (on BOTH sides no less!) is around nil but somehow i did it. or somethingthat said, i am not one to turn down offers of a tape. ;D i must remind you however that it is now my turn to send you one as yours was the last exchanged. in regards to cassette tapes vs. compact discs... i obviously held on staunchly to cassettes BUT since getting a sparkly new computer with built-in cd burner it's such a snap to make mix cd's! wheras a cassette used to take a minimal 2-3 hours to construct i can now create 4 cd's in the same ( ... )

Hello! Getting along well enough, but honestly - I've been working so hard over the last month and there's no break in sight. It's like being trapped on the raft in The Life of Pi, only without the tiger, the raft, or the sea.

Normally, I try to average three articles a month. Over the next four weeks I have to complete seven articles, totalling around 10,000 words. God only knows how many phone calls and emails that represents. About a quintillion, I'd guess. I've been getting up at 7am and working till 10pm, then sleeping and doing it all over again. And I've been doing three or four hours a day at the weekend as well.

Until relatively recently, I quite enjoyed these periods of extreme hecticness. I like being under pressure. But it's been incessant, and I'm worried about how I'll cope if I get ill or something. It's not fun any more ( ... )
