More comic ranting

Mar 03, 2005 14:18

At least this rant has a positive spin to it. This clears up the backlog of comic ranting that I had been working on. I'm sure that there's more to come, but I haven't finished reading this week's books yet... and I'll probably have more to say about Wanda (Maximoff, not Gershwitz). I am real thankful for the comments that you guys have been ( Read more... )

this is something I've been meaning to do for a long time now. I'm a big comic geek - everyone knows that, but I used to just post about sex and how much I hated my life... EVERYONE does that (g). Of course, I could be working... that's what I'm supposed to be doing.... oh well, I guess I'd better do a little bit of that today too...

Jessica Jones, aka Jewel, wont be found in any of the old issues of the Avengers. She was a new character created by Bendis for a book called "Alias", part of the adult themed Max line. While Bendis has said a few times that he never wanted to originally use Jessica Drew, the characters are very similiar. Both were female detectives who'd given up the costumed life upon finding that they just werent all that "super" compared to the other guys in tights. They both had super strength and they could both fly. (Jessica Jones very seldom flew because she sucks at it after...well that would be getting into too deep.) Where as Jessica Drew had a real history with the team, Jessica Jones was sort ot retro fitted into continuity ( ... )

Heh.. Four volumes... easy to find... amazing story. Can't remember the subtitle of Vol. 1, but the others are Come Home, the Underneath, and the Secret Origin of Jessica Jones. Sounds like we have VERY similar reading tastes btw... so I am VERY glad you are posting all this now.

I agree with Dan, it's refreshing to have someone who can have an honest discussion about comic books without sounding like the comic book guy from The Simpsons.

As for my take on The Young Avengers, the jury is still out. It's only been one issue so far, but I admit that I'm intrigued.

hrm... was actually going to blow off the "young avengers" but you got me intrigued. I'll have to check it out.

And add me to the list of those who think its *so* cool to see there are other gay comic fans who aren't whacko. I've been a closet comic fan for years and I'm totally loving seeing there are so many here on LJ.
