GONE TOO SOON:

Jun 28, 2009 11:34

So, Michael Jackson. I've avoided posting here over the last couple of days, because I wanted to avoid posting something awful and trite about someone who - given that pop is my lifeblood - I had a huge amount of respect for. Thoroughly disappointed in the amount of people - not here, but elsewhere, particularly on Facebook - falling over ( Read more... )

I'm not falling over myself to grieve - in fact, I kind of don't care - but I'm mostly keeping quiet about it. He lived a sad life, did questionable things, produced some great music, had a monkey BFF, spunked several million on that epic Scream video and then died a sad death. It's sad! But Pop Icon Michael has been Dead To Me(tm) for a while now, so his death marks more of an uncomfortable sadness as it's the conclusion of ALL his wacky personae, unpalatable Michaels included.

re: various charges - his behaviour was extremely shady and supremely weird (in a creepy way, not in an endearing way), but yes, he was found not guilty. I still think that because of the circumstances surrounding it all, it's safer to not fall on either side of the debate and to be honest I think it's both boring and annoying that we're seeing the debate once again in full force the week of his death. Give it some breathing room, guys. Or, you know, don't care.

He was a right fucking weirdo though. Shamon. You know it.

A weirdo, yes, but there should be more popstars who have monkey friends and funfairs in their back gardens and who, when you're told they sleep in an oxygen chamber so that they can LIVE FOREVER (w0e!), you kind of have to pay mind to whether you think it's true or not.

(He needn't have bothered with the millions spunking, though, the 'Scream' video is shit. I like the bit with the dance where Janet lifts her top up, but that bit was free.)

We were talking about this the other day, what exactly made the Scream video so pricey? I wondered if it was maybe the licensing for the anime clips or the amazing Microsoft word art, but I'd like to think it was just that they bought only the finest in designer Bumble Balls.

Justin Timberlake sleeps in an oxygen chamber, pass it on.

Justin can't sleep, he's too busy wanking himself silly, thinking about how many black friends he has.

Aw, sorry if my entry is one of the ones you're talking about, m'dear. I really wasn't a fan in any sort of way - just not my cup of tea - but, like I say, I can understand how sad it must be for people who were. xx

No! No! Not at all! And I didn't want this to sound like a telling off post! I don't do telling off posts. I totally get people not being into it, and not really caring; it's the people who are clamouring to make... cynical comments and snide-y remarks about it that are... not getting to me, as such, but sort of... making me disappointed. I just wish someone would tell the internet that there are no prizes for being a GIGANTIC DOUCHEBAG about everything.

And I liked your post this morning, please post more.

When someone famous/infamous/significant dies, you always see that unique brand of indifference that never manifests itself in not talking about the person at all, but rather in everyone tripping over each other to loudly and repeatedly yell 'I DON'T CARE! I DON'T CARE!' It's beyond tedious.

I think you and I have very different taste in MJ songs - I've been listening to Dirty Diana, The Way You Make Me Feel, Give In To Me, In The Closet and Remember The Time on a constant loop for the last couple of days.

All fine songs! 'Dirty Diana' is marvelous. I can't disassociate 'Remember the Time' from the video, though. Anything with Eddie Murphy is immediately soured for me. This includes Melons B.

To be fair, with the possible exception of Coming To America, that video is better than ANY of his films.

I think Farrah's getting some good press from all this: she'd have been a Bea Arthur-sized blip on the radar if it hadn't been for all the articles mentioning that 'Charlies Angel star Farrah Fawcett also died today'.
