You could be quite right. New York is a very dangerous place. He could have been robbed and struck on the head. He didn't sound particularly sound mentally. He could have been left in some alleyway or another afterwards.

I suggest checking police stations incase he was picked up as a vagrant, hospitals for the wounded and unconscious, and morgues for the off-chance that he was killed.

What's a police station or morgue?

The police are the mortal authorities. If he were walking down the middle of the street, they would have arrested him and have him in jail. It's a possibility.

A morgue is where they keep dead bodies. If he were stabbed or the like for his wallet, his body would be there. Given that we are not in World's End any longer, he may be permanantly dead.
