A road not taken...

My friend D* emailed me one of Robert Frost's poems yesterday. It's a simple poem with a simple message. I kept going back to it and re-reading it hoping to know, for certain, the message within. Du'oh! A straight interpretation of the poem is easy enough. But if you're a sucker for alternative endings, the possibilities are endless (which by the ( Read more... )

I remember when I was maybe nine years old, my mother read that poem to me. That was a good day.

People don't understand failure. Are afraid of it and sometimes humiliated by it. But I allow it to change me.

I never wrote the meme out because it started looking like a pissing contest and the incredible moments of my life people would neither believe nor could they fully enter into the transcendent beauty of them. And i suddenly realized how incredibly wonderful it was to keep every single one of them to myself and share them in private with the most intimate of my friends.

That poem comes back again and again to haunt me and everytime I live it it seems the experiences behind it evoke wildly different emotions. I wonder what your friend was saying? I wonder how you experienced it.

it started looking like a pissing contest

which is unfortunate as it would have been a good way for people to reflect back on life and be proud of themselves. unless of course no.4 is:

'i once jumped over a fence and had sex with a guy and a cucumber...'
(ack!)

it's a fitting poem for what my friend is going through i think. i have no idea how it applies to D*. but i recall reading the poem many moons ago and it was quite soothing to look at it again and re-read it and understand it (coz i'm weird like that). :P
