Funny you should mention chickens. My Mom and Dad want raise some chickens up at Cape Cod. If they do go ahead and get them, I'll post an update!

My wife (and our son) wants chickens. They are legal in Portland, it seems a lot of people have them. I want nothing to do with them, mainly because I know I'll end up doing most of the work for them. I wonder if this is Jerrod's fear as well.... :)

I have a couple friends who do this (they also have caged rabbits). They have a bunch of chickens and one rooster. Could probably put you in touch with them via e-mail if you really wanted tips.
