Just saw this movie, and I’m all over the place on it. Forgive me for doing this notebook style, but I’d love to hear what others thought.

I knew from the trailer that this would be a heavily stylized movie. Julie Taymor isn’t subtle, and God bless her for it. Some may find her style over the top, but I love it. The choreography, costumes, ( Read more... )

I was more than skeptical, but if you say it's good then I'll reconsider.

This is one of those situations where a dollop of cynicism will undermine a mountain of enthusiasm. If either of you were to come back and say "ugh, I thought it was overly sentimental and obscenely overproduced" I would have little recourse. All I can say is that it was a hit with me. Just check SOME of your skepticism at the door and I suspect you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Drink some tea first, too.
