Well, people just don't listen Kath, must go out and spend a fortune on getting prepared, Or of course, could do the sensible things like insulate the house on the cheap, drop a water bottle in the cystern, turn lights/TV's/PC's off regularly, (Ack 2-3 PC's will need to be on permenantly here soon, unless I can find a decent host, *Mutters something about traffic limits on last freebie) but hell I tell ye what with PC's, TV, Jumper and a quilt downstairs, cooking in the kitchen, the only room here that needs to be heated is the bedroom, I'm looking forward to cheap gas bills from now on :) (not looking forward to the leccy bill though :( hmmm.)
If you go to economy 7 (or whatever the equivalent is these days) you will at least get the night hours at one third the price of normal elactricity. Although I set my washer etc. off more than once a day......problems of a large family.......at least once a day everything goes on economy seven.
From what I remember it is approx 30p to run my washer during the day but only 10p for the same wash on econommy 7.If you have a fridge frezer, the last time I checked, you could save around 40% on your bills just by going over to Economy7, regardless of what other gadgetry you had running permanently.
Idealy I would love to be running on Solar Power so that I get money back from the national grid :) I now just have to find an alternative for my gas hob.......I hate electric hobs, they are crap for wok cooking-and I do a lot of that type of dish...it's much healthier. Maybe I should go back to a proper charcoal burner....that at leat would be carbon neutral as long as I planted trees....... :)
"saving 40% now" shouldn't realy be our priority though Kath, There are washers our there that involve nothing more than a 15 minute cycle ride to nowhere that do the job just as well. ooh know anyone with some spare energy?
that at leat would be carbon neutral as long as I planted trees.......
and made your own I hope, mass production of this stuff in the west certainly used to involve a lot of "Converted energy" rather than the good ole fashioned way of earth mound and 24 hour "watcher/s/mound sealers"
Especially tonight my friend. We are having a major winter storm complete with hail, ice pellets, snow, sleet, and freezing rain. (All of which poor hubby has to drive in tonight to get to work).
