“I’m fine… just go, you should go now.”
Leeteuk shook off the hand of the younger man who tried to wipe the tears flowing down his cheeks.
“How can I? You’re making it difficult, hyung.”
Eunhyuk replied shortly and looked away from the elder, hiding his emotions in his clenched fists.
They were at the backstage of the studio Sukira recorded. It was the last recording for them to host the show together that night. The management had announced the change of host a few days ago, and Eunhyuk had been nervous since then.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be like this… I wanted to just laugh and let you go like I did on-air, but it’s… so hard to this, to see you gone. Sukira is a part of my life now, and so are you.”
Eunhyuk bit down his lip hard at the words of the elder. It was same for him, Sukira and the time spending with Leeteuk had become the important part of his life in this past few years. They had sung, laughed and sometimes cried together here. He knew they wouldn’t be able to host the show together forever, but he didn’t expect he would be the one to leave the show first. The elder was planned to join the army at the end of this year, and Eunhyuk had been planning to keep the show for him, to keep his seat warm to tell him that there would be a ‘home’ waiting for him. He had actually begged the management to suspend the plan at least until Leeteuk was enlisted in the army, but business was a business, after all.
“I should be happy for you, joining Super Junior M is a great chance. And Donghae must be really happy, you two can spend much more time together”, said Leeteuk with a weak smile.
Yeah, Donghae, his lifetime partner, the other half of his soul. Actually, Leeteuk was the one who pushed their backs and helped them figure out the meaning of their feelings to each other. Leeteuk said, at that time, that finding 'the one' didn’t happen to everyone, so if you’ve got a fortune you should never let it go. During telling this to Eunhyuk, the elder’s fingers were tangled with those of Kangin who was staring at his beloved tenderly, who was 'the one' for Leeteuk.
Eunhyuk loved Donghae. He knew it, Donghae knew it, and even fans knew it. He had never doubted his feeling, and he would never. Still, however, there was a place always spared for Leeteuk in his heart, and the place ached every time he saw the elder enduring the pains alone secretly.
“Please don’t tell this Yesung, it’s great he joins Sukira, it’s just…”, begged Leeteuk as wiping off his tears.
“I know. I understand.”
Eunhyuk couldn’t speak much. It felt like his throat was stuck with something heavy. Leeteuk leaned against the wall, covered his face with his palm and sighed deeply.
“It feels like everyone leaves me lately.”
Eunhyuk flinched. It was apparent that Leeteuk was talking about Hangeng, talking about Kangin. Eunhyuk wanted to pull the elder into a hug to give him comfort and wipe off those tears, but he couldn’t. It was not because of the guilt for Donghae or Kangin. He was simply scared that there might be no going-back if he embraced this frail figure in his arms once. Instead, he took a hand of the elder with his and held it tightly.
“I’ll be back. We’ll be back.”
Eunhyuk stared at nowhere. He just wished that the new schedule would be busy enough to distract him from everything but work, so that he would never recall the warmth of the elder in his hand now.
