Chapter 2
It had been a week since Mr.Park joined to South Seoul High School as a new literature teacher, and there were several things Youngwoon had learned about Mr.Park so far. He learned Mr.Park had perfectly-figured fingers which flashed everytime he turned the pages of textbook or held a chalk against the blackboard. He learned Mr.Park recited the letters and poems as if singing, which made him feel like he was swimming in heaven. He learned a small dimple appeared on the corner of the lips when Mr.Park smiled, the dimple smile which had been attracting him so badly since the first time he had seen it when they had met around the gymnasium before they knew who they were each other. He learned Mr.Park were treating students very well with all kindness and enthusiasm, excepting for a certain student.
He learned Mr.Park was avoiding him.
“What the fuck is so amusing to keep staring at a guy? Even for a fuckin’ week?”
It took a few seconds for Youngwoon to come back to life and answer his friend with a half-hearted “Huh?”. Because he was craning his neck as much as he could from his seat in the back of the classroom to get a good view of his latest obsession now standing at the center of the room and reading out some old stories to the class, he missed the murderous look from the person sitting next to him.
“Ya! Stop daydreaming, dork!”
Kim Heechul, the weirdest student in the whole school who happened to be Youngwoon’s closest pal, hit the bigger one on his head.
“Ouch! Don’t hit me, and don’t get in my way!”
Youngwoon shushed the smaller one and shifted his bulky body in his seat to get the better view, never averting his gaze from his ‘daydream’ during the whole exchange. Heechul rolled his eyes and sighed heavily.
“The great Kim Youngwoon, the champion of high-school Judo players and the toughest of all naughty brats around this area, now staring at a guy like a sissy fan-boy and playing with himself every night in fantasy? Pitiful.”
Heechul spat and nudged the bigger one in the ribs. Youngwoon pouted and glared at the smaller boy.
“I’m not sissy, how could you of all people call me sissy?” Youngwoon pointed at the pink hand-mirror and the small lipstick on Heechul’s desk. “And it’s not… every night, I mean, fuck, yeah, it’s every night, yes, but what’s wrong with that!?”
Youngwoon declared in the smallest voice he could manage, blushing. Heechul smirked at the confession devilishly. Youngwoon regretted he had told this weirdo a story about the first encounter with Jungsu. He should have known this evil bastard would make a full fun out of it, but he couldn’t keep that sensational incident to himself.
“Nothing is wrong with that, Youngwoon-ssi. I’m relieved to know you are not castrated. Well, it doesn’t matter to me if you are, actually… Anyway, then you just go straight to that guy and prove you are a man.”
Heechul giggled and patted the bigger one on his back strongly. The sound made some students look back at them.
“But how could I? he runs away everytime I try to approach him, and he never even looks at me!”
“Look, I have a plan actually, I-“
Heechul was trying to whisper into the bigger one’s ear when the sound of a textbook smashed onto the front desk harshly made all students quiet.
“Kim Heechul! It’s not time for chatting, or do you have any questions to me!?”
Jungsu stated sternly. He was basically a soft and moderate person, but he could be strict when it came to the job.
“Yes, Mr.Park, I do have a question, actually. I was just wondering if you prefer boxers or trunks to cover your pretty little ass.”
Heechul announced aloud, and the whole class burst into a big laughter at once. Jungsu blushed instantly, his jaw dropped.
“Detention, Kim Heechul! You stay here after school and cannot go home before you finish the assignments I’ll give you!”
Jungsu declared in the most dignified voice he could manage, glaring Heechul sternly. He was not sure if it had an effect on the student, however, because the student widened the grin by his words.
“Why not Kim Youngwoon here? I was not talking to myself, Mr.Park. Do you have any particular reason to favor him or something?”
Heechul pointed at the said student who stared at him in surprise. Jungsu dared a glance at the said one cautiously, then their eyes met momentarily. He felt his heart skipped before he averted his eyes.
“N-no, of course not!”, stammered Jungsu. “Umm, K-Kim Youngwoon, you stay here, too.”
Jungsu ordered without properly looking at the student, then the bell rung to tell them that school was over.
“Everybody go home, and I’ll bring you two some assignments. I’ll be back soon.”
Collecting his properties hastily, Jungsu closed the class and dashed out of the room faster than anyone.
“See? I said I had a plan.”
Heechul winked at Youngwoon.
Jungsu was standing in front of the closed door of the room he had left a few minutes ago. Paper of assignments were in his hand, and he found the small pile of paper feel strangely heavy. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door to find a board back of a man sitting in the desk nearby the window.
“Where’s Kim Heechul?”
Jungsu entered the room closing the door behind him, and noticed the room was deserted excepting for him and the guy who looked back from the window.
“He never obeys to the teachers. Or anyone, more to the point”, chuckled Youngwoon. “Detention sucks, but it’s good this time because I’ve finally got a chance to talk to you.”
Youngwoon rose from the desk and approached to the elder. Jungsu flinched by instinct and took a step back to keep the distance between them. He was scared of the young man in front of him.
“Do you understand why you are here in the first place?”
Jungsu spat shortly, having a difficulty in keeping his voice unshaken. They were walking very slowly, drawing a circle around the desks between them in a constant distance. Jungsu felt himself like a prey stalked by a fierce animal. Tension in the room was mounting rapidly.
“Because I’m a bad student.”
Youngwoon answered in a low voice, never averting his eyes from the other one over the desks.
“Y-yes, that’s right.”
Jungsu stood still for a moment taken by the unexpected obedience of the other one, and the younger never missed the chance. In a flash, he closed the distance between them and trapped the elder between his arms, the back of the elder against the window glass.
“And you’re a bad teacher who flirted on a student at their first encounter.”
Youngwoon smirked at the stunned face of the other one. He had been wishing for this whole week to appreciate this beautiful face without any disturbances. He leaned forward and whispered into the elder’s ear.
“Jungsu…”
“It’s Mr.Park.”
Jungsu corrected instantly, but he couldn’t pretend that the warm breath against his skin had no effect on him. A shiver ran through his spine, and the younger smirked by detecting it.
“Admit it. You found me attractive there, right?”
Youngwoon looked at the elder in his eyes to demand the answer, but Jungsu averted his eyes wordlessly. Actually, what the younger one said was not all false. Jungsu admitted in his head that he had found the young man so likable, even kind of attractive when they had met first, but there was no way he could say it aloud.
“Kim Youngwoon, no jokes here, just… just let me go.”
Jungsu almost added ‘please’ at the end of the sentence. The closeness of their bodies made him uneasy. Although they were in the deserted room on the second floor, they were standing by the window which provided the open view to the students working on the after-school activities down at the ground outside so some of them, or teachers, could catch them in this position at any time.
“K-Kim Youngwoon, I’m a teacher, you listen to-“
“I’ll let you go if you promise that you’ll call me by my first name and let me call you by yours when there’s just two of us.”
Youngwoon grinned at the elder. Waiting for a while but not getting a reply from the elder who raised his eyebrows in protest, Youngwoon pushed the elder against the window and stepped forward to close the distance between them.
“Jungsu?”
“Okay, I got it, I promise! Now, Youngwoon! Let me go!”
Jungsu was relieved to see the younger man stepped back from him, but he really hated the content smile on this naughty pupil’s face. Jungsu pressed the paper of assignments against the younger’s chest hard. He was angry at both the young boy and himself.
“Assignment. Don’t you ever leave this room before you finish this.”
Youngwoon took the paper obediently, and nodded toward the other paper in the elder’s hand.
“Give me that one, too.”
Jungsu frowned hearing that.
“This one is for Kim Heechul.”
Youngwoon snatched the paper from the elder’s hand and grinned widely.
“I’ll take over it, because I think I owe him. A lot.”
...To Be Continued.
