Brookfield isn't really out by you....is it? I kinda considered this whole night to be more out by me than out by you......I work in Maywood and that's only a 12 mile drive to work each morning.
the bar is way closer to you, but yea, brookfield is pretty close to me... like 10ish minutes. the arcade is across the street from the bar i work at. i went to high school in lagrange.
I'll be there for Hala Kahiki for sure. I *want* to go to the arcade part too, but that'll be a game time decision (probably won't know for sure until I'm *at* HK).
Hah, funny you should mention that. One of my old comps was a "dedicated" MAME machine at one time (dedicated, in that I didn't use it for anything else). Somewhere, I probably have about 3-400 misc ROMs saved too. Yeah, I kinda went overboard a dozen years ago or so when I discovered that I could actually play the genuine old stand up ROMs on an emulator :-) ... though, I would def need some approval from the wife before I go building a cabinet ;-)
You don't even need to explain; I'm such a digital hoarder it's not funny. I think I have every ROM for every system made between the Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis, with C=64, MAME, and some N64 thrown in for good measure. I have no doubt I spent more time downloading them than I have playing them, but it's my main vice. :)
My MAME cab was a stand-up Solitaire machine that I picked up for like $40 in Texas--kind of a mini-cab with no marquee or side-art. Pretty easy to strip it out and throw in a PC and monitor, and rig up joysticks and buttons (the USB iPAC is your friend for that). Fairly unobtrusive, though my wife still hates it. :)
Oh, do I know digital hoarding. Over 4 million files across 13 hard drives (9 portable/external, 4 internal - granted 3 of the externals are redundant backups about 10TB).
My hometown had a whopping two arcade games. One was at "Charlie's Drive-In" and the other was Pizza Hut. Ms. Pac Man & Asteroids, respectively. Charlie's also had pinball, which I was more obsessed with than the PacMan. Both spots also had juke boxes...back when you could get 2 songs for a quarter. I'm pretty sure that until I reached the age of about 12, my entirely weekly allowances were spent either at Pinball, Pacman, or those jukeboxes.
And occasionally the gumball machine. I'm only human.
Meh, I didn't know any better until I was in middle school & went to the mall (I grew up essentially 40 miles from a town of a decent size in any direction) where they had an Aladdin Arcade.

It's a "sickeness" I am quite familiar with. :-)
