I just applied for a position through CareerBuilder.com and I kid you not; it wasn't even thirty minutes after I sent of my resume that they called me for an interview. That's either a really good thing, or a not so good thing

What method is she using? I have posted my resume online to Monster and Career Builder only, and I have made it a practice to only apply for positions that I am positively experienced in or might be remotely experienced in.
Also, I would assume that your area has a higher percentage of unemployed that she is in direct competition with. But, yes, getting absolutely no response at all can be very discouraging. I feel for her, I have known what that is like as well. What about networking, how about friends and people you both know? LJ is also a great resource for that sort of thing as well. Help her keep her chin up, she'll find something. I'll keep my fingers crossed for her.
I've always had really good luck with CareerBuilder and have gotten lots of leads, phone calls and interviews based on having my resume posted there. Do you update your resume every week? Go into your profile and change just one thing (add a period, change a word -- something minor) and re-save so that you get moved to the head of the list every week because recruiters are always sent the newest resumes first.
Thank you for that helpful insider tip! I did not know that, honestly. I will remember to do that from now on. I'm hoping that things kind of work out for this job, as I think it might very well be worth my time, plus I think I might actually like it a lot.
