what a week.

Sickness and sadness gripped my thoughts (and nose and throat) for the most part this week.

Murder? Suicide? Sickness? These things only happen to OTHER people... right? )

We should talk more than we do.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. If that's all you want to read right now, stop here.

A few months before I met xinamarie I lost a friend called Sarah. She was killed on exercise in a vehicle accident. The vehicle she was in was overturned and she was thrown clear and died in hospital of her injuries a few hours later. She was the first person I was ever really close to that I lost who was not a family member. Even then, the family members who died weren't really close to me (none of them are really, I prefer not to get involved with family) so this was the first time I ever really felt a sense of loss. There were people I had served with who had been killed, but that was an occupational hazard and we said our farewells and moved on. In some ways the loss of a friend lingers. The way I dealt with the loss was to do the painful things like go to the funeral and talk to the family. It is hard to do, and crushing, but it also brings a form of closure and in spite of the hardship you will only ever regret NOT being there. Don't be afraid to ( ... )
