Halloween

I won the Rocky Horror halloween show costume contest last night, dressed as frank the bunny.

There's something very disconcerting about this costume to a lot of people, aside from the obvious discomfort one gets from having a kinda-demonic-looking bunny looking at you. I think the most discomfort for the viewer comes from the eyes. You can't really see the wearer's eyes through the mask, and you don't really know if they're looking at you, or simply glancing in that general direction, and I think a lot of people find that bothersome.

Eyes and facial expressions go a long way in creating a connection between people at a glance, and a mask that actively aims to stifle that connection goes a long way in creating a powerful sense of revulsion. A lot of people approached me saying they loved the costume, but from those people it was generally because it reminded them of a movie they really enjoy. I had just as many people come up and say that while they appreciated the costume, they found it very creepy and disconcerting.

But fuck it, it's halloween, you SHOULD be creeped and disconcerted.

And a fun Halloween, at that. Thanks ebony_sphynx for doing the bleeding eye for me two nights in a row, I had a lot of positive reactions on the realism, both nights. Also thanks to boogastreehouse for Friday, I greatly enjoyed the party... It's good to see everyone again, and I met a lot of new and interesting/beautiful people as well. (By the way, you two should really get together for lunch or something... Every time I mentioned one of you to the other it was answered with a LONG sigh, and a "Wow, I really miss him/her.. we don't get to see each other very much anymore." You both did exactly the same thing.. I'm just saying, it was pretty amusing.)

Also, thanks to boymaenad for telling me to go to Rocky, even though I flaked on Norm's afterwards.

Much love to the Sins cast, the Tim Burton preshow is still my favorite, and you guys were great as always.
