On self esteem and a busy schedule

Lately it seems a lot of people have problems with self esteem. I don't know if I've become more aware of it, people are more freely speaking of it, its just plain more common, or what, but it's really noticeable lately. It makes me rather sad, since these are lovely, beautiful, fun people who don't seem to even like themselves as much as I like ( Read more... )

Self esteem is a touchy subject, I think. I have possibly some of the lowest self esteem on the planet, and I freely admit it because it's an issue I've dealt with all of my life. My mother raised me to feel ashamed and disgusted by my body and always pushed me to lose weight, even when I was 3 or 4 years old. I used to get my ass kicked and rocks thrown at me in school and it's only until recently that I've started standing up for myself. Never lose your self esteem, it's a rare thing with a lot of women I think, especially with the media telling all of us we're not good enough. =)

It really is a rare thing. This makes me sad. I'm not really sure how we can teach self esteem, either. It's kind of something we have to reach ourselves.

It's also awkward, since some people, especially women since we're culturally trained, put themselves down constantly in conversation to either A: get people to make them feel better or B: to have other people put themselves down so they feel better. I hate those conversations, because I've nothing to say.

So I for one say we are all good enough, in fact we're pretty awesome, and screw the media!
