In Your Opinion - Anarchy

I've been chewing over thoughts derived from an earlier post. I'm curious how people view "anarchy" as it is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary: A social state in which there is no governing person or group of people, but each individual has absolute liberty (without the implication of disorder), as opposed to a state of so-called ( Read more... )

I am at heart, idealistically an anarchist. Realistically though, too many people are fuck bags to have a real anarchist society succeed on any large scale.

To me it's simply the idea that people are good. If people were good then there would be no need for government. We'd all take care of everyone because it's the right thing to do. The problem is that in any social situation of that nature, a percentage of people will look to selfishly exploit it and that is the true failing of anarchy.

So yeah, dick heads are the impediment to a true anarchist society.

As you already know, I view anarchy very favorably. There will always be those who harm others, attempt to restrain them or steal, and nothing, including anarchy, can prevent this. However, the presence of any imposed government mandates and institutionalizes far more harm, restraint and stealing. The best practical argument for anarchy is to look at the record of government over recorded history, and especially its wars ( ... )
