Status Report: LASIK, fund-raiser, and paying-it-forward.

So, as I posted recently, I got a job VERY unexpectedly, and making more money than I expected to make. This was the most unexpected, unpredictable, and unbelievably RANDOM job opportunity I've ever had. I mean... seriously, I was in Springfield, MO to take my EMT practical exam, went to a chocolate, cheese, wine, and beer festival after the exam ( Read more... )

You know sometimes I think the world just has a way of conspiring to work for some people, and you are one of them. :) I'm happy it's all working out, and if you would really like to do pay it forward or pay it back, you could always send mine either to Kiva or Charity:Water (which is one of the few non-profits that funnels all donations directly to their cause; their overhead is covered by corporate sponsorships).

I don't know if the world has ever conspired to work for me before, but it seems to be happening this time. I'll put those two charities on my list, and after I've had a couple of paychecks, I can start putting good karma back into the universe. :)

I am so glad you were able to get this surgery done, my dear. I'm bouncing with glee over here.

I'd love it if you could give my payment to either Guiding Eyes for the Blind in New York, or Guidedog Foundation, which is also in New York but is on Long Island and is therefore a smaller school.

Do it whenever you can, I don't need to know if you did because I do trust you, which is something I don't say about most people, or keep it. It's up to you.

Love and huggles you lots!

I'm so relieved that I was able to get it done, too. I never thought I'd be able to do this, and it's incredible.

I'll definitely donate to one of those two. Do you have a preference? I figure I'll start making donations after I get a couple of paychecks, so that I can get a small cushion back in my bank account. (I completely drained my savings to pay the rest of the LASIK, and I'll feel very uneasy until I have at least a little bit back in there.)

Huggles back! :)

I'm just overwhelmed at how everything has turned out. It's bizarre and incredible at once. *hugs*

Also... my chocolate job might just take me out to LA. If it does, are you up for a visit, and lunch on me? :D

I have to tell you that when I left work yesterday and got on my bus to go home I was tired, frustrated, and cranky. And then I pulled up LJ to look for new fic to cheer me up and saw your post. I will admit I teared up and if I wasn't on a bus probably would have been a blubbery fool! I was so happy for you! And so happy that it all worked out! I knew fandom wouldn't let you down and when I see things like this happen it always restores your faith in things. So THANK YOU for the privilege of being part of it.

It still boggles me that people who have never even met me just decided to help me make this happen. It's unbelievable.

It's also overwhelming to me that I found a job like this, so randomly, when I desperately needed one. Things are working out in strange ways, and I just hope that I can live in a way to prove that I deserved my good fortune.

I have the best friends - fandom and RL - and I'm grateful for that. ♥
