[Robert would have asked how Jack Horner's personality could be described as anything other than "obnoxious, rude and abrasive", but that last part distracts his attention.]

... "Gay vibe"?

Exactly what is a "gay vibe"? [This is said with a disbelieving tone, because Robert's ego still stings from having his heterosexism rant on the other thread ignored and this sounds pretty damn heterosexist.]

And where exactly do you get it from? [Gaydar is not a concept that Robert is familiar with. Even if he's gay himself.]

As in men who clearly go for other men and don't find women attractive in any way. Well, maybe not any way, but certainly less than other guys.

Val and Nel notwithstanding, because they're chicks and awesome. Patchy too. So it goes for both sides; I'm just wondering if any other girls suspect a lot of the guys are all bravado and not much substance to the words in this area.

[Belive whatever you want man, she doesn't care, just finds it amusing.]

So... men like myself. [Confusing, because Robert hadn't noticed anything of the sort. He doesn't notice much when it comes to social interactions, though.] I would have thought exactly the opposite, though.

Val... By any chance would that be Valvalis, Lady of the Wind? I spoke to her here as well. The other two I am not yet familiar with.

[The concept of bravado doesn't sit too well with Robert, if only because he can't usually tell it apart from actual strength.] What use would there be lying about one's affections in such a manner? Surely there is no obvious benefit from it.

Oh? Are you a man? Hm.

Yup! Valvalis! Neliel is her ah girlfriend? Wife? Something close. And Patchy is Patchouli.

Because men are stupid. [Says that bluntly even after being told Robert is a man.] They're amazing about going into denial. [Least valid person EVER to criticize someone else on denial.] And they probably think they have to pretend not to find each other sexy so that they can keep their manly "bro" relationships close without complicating it. Maybe. If Jigen and Goemon are gay, then I'd definitely say that's true. And if they're not at all, then they're just sexist idiots beyond help. Either way!

Indeed I am. [And the only one in this thread because the mun is a moron.]

Hopefully I will have the good fortune of meeting Ms. Neliel and Ms. Patchouli at some point for myself.

[Have a sliiiight snort here.] Certainly some men - and some people in general - can be, but I would never do anything of the sort. [Only because Robert can't hide anything ever. Instead he'll just be evasive as all hell and hide behind pretentious diction.

The next part confuses him, if only because that social dynamic is significantly less common on Terra.] That seems to be irrational. Terran men would hardly deny the attractiveness of a fellow person, regardless of that person's gender. And simply because a person is attractive does not mean one wishes to pursue a relationship.

[Fujiko was wondering about that filter, yup. That or wondering if he's half and half XD]

Patchouli's really sweet! I haven't met Nel, just heard about her from Valvalis.

Mah~ It's not like men in my world -- and I think here -- only do that about each other. They do it about women too. Playing hard to get, or just in denial, or just not wanting to make things even more complicated, you know? Lots of games or something. [And again, last person who should be talking about it.]

[Robert here's cisgendered, though now that you mention it an intersex character would be fun to play if only for moments like this.]

It would seem to me that all of that simply serves as an artificial impediment towards the actual goal of establishing a relationship. It is difficult enough to do so already - why make it any more so?

[I'm still trying to figure out which post Grell would get excluded to.]

Precisely because it's difficult? People throw obstacles in the way of what they want all the time. Either because they tell themselves they don't want it, or they're afraid of having it or, fuck I don't know. A million reasons? Ask a psychologist.

[And now I wonder about a character whose sex and/or gender changes on a regular basis. Man that would be funny.

Robert... understands this reasoning. In fact, it's hitting somewhat painfully close to home, if only because he does this exact same thing and is in fact doing this exact same thing at that very moment. He's quiet for a few seconds.]

... That does seem to make some sense. It is still illogical, but humans are often illogical. [Including, he realizes with some trepidation, himself.]

[Pfft.]

I guess so. If we weren't at least a little illogical, we'd be machines, hm? Besides, there's a million reasons, you can't just eliminate everyone's personal reasons just because they don't make sense to everyone else. It just doesn't work that way.

[Robert actually needs to talk to Grell. He'd be happy to see that there are trans people in Luceti, even if it will take him some time (okay, a lot of time) to get over the fact she's a death goddess.]

Sometimes I wonder if it might be better to be a machine, though. Emotions can sometimes deter reasoning.

But I suppose you are correct. [Even if Robert wants to think that his reasons are the most valid ones.]

Having no emotions at all would be boring though. Isn't that what they always say? It's like a rollercoaster, without the lows the highs aren't high at all.

[Heh Poor cisgender Robert. It's hard to get a decent argument out of Fujiko unless it's a REALLY childish squirtgun "gimme back my teddy bear!" level]

[Robert takes a moment to consider this.]

Hmm... in a way that seems to evoke images of biological cycles, where growth cannot exist without decay, and vice-versa.

Still, there is something of an appeal in the concept of a steady state. [Especially for somebody who doesn't enjoy change.]

I guess, but doesn't that just cause stagnation? That's never good either.

[This is from someone who can't sit still in one city for more than six months without panicking out and running away to far-off parts of the world.]

Perhaps there is a way to bring the two elements in balance - but that is something I cannot claim to have discovered for myself. [And knowing how resistant he is to that sort of thing he probably won't, at least not on his own.]

[A small tinkling laugh.]

I should think it'd be very difficult; seeing as few if any civilizations have discovered it yet, hm?
