The funny thing is, I wasn't sure how to write John happy and relaxed since he is ALWAYS depicted as serious and cool. And then I figured the guy is just as human as the boys and of course they'd have had happy moments. I'm SO glad people agree! :)

Beautiful. Just perfect. I hear you about the earlier seasons. I have this irrational wish that we'd have gotten a season before the first one. One with John and Dean and Sam hunting together. I think this would have helped balance what was to come later.

I don't think that wish is irrational, you know, if we had had that season before the first one we would have felt even more strongly about it when John died or how hard it must have been for Sam to leave his familiy and why exactly Dean can't imaging living his life without his dad and his brother. It's like with the season 5 finale: The boys weren't really together for a whole season, so when Dean let Sam jump into the pit I didn't really feel his loss (not saying HE didn't feel it!) 'cause it just seemed so unreal and distant.

Anyhow, yes, you're right, we should have had that season! Really, that would have been more JDM with the boys and THAT I'd love!

The chess board developed a life of its own, really, in the beginning it was Sam playing on it, then John remembered about the boys' past and then the thing about Mary came up... I had not planned it like that at first, but I really love how it finally came out. And yep, soaking wet Winchesters? :D Luv that! ;)

I reallly loved this but the dedication is very off putting. It took me a bit to even come back and read this because of it. Not trying to start wank. Just saying I would have been sad to have missed this because of that little detail.

Absolutely gorgeous family moment and superb John. I don't think he got as distant as he was on the show until after the Stanford fight. :(

I've been thinking about this, the dedication. I think you're right, if people enjoyed the opener then this would really put them off. And that was not what I wanted to do, not at all. I'm happy people can enjoy the show even when I can't anymore and I shouldn't be so obvious about it. I still want to keep it in there, cause that's how I feel about the show at the moment, so I'm moving it to the end of the story. I don't know if that makes any difference but to me somehow it does. But THANKS a lot for mentioning it, I wouldn't want people not to read this if they disagree about the episode and liked it.

And I think you're right again, I can't see him as distant and non-caring as he is often portrayed, I love the guy way too much for that. And still that's exactly why it is so hard to write him relaxed, cause you never know if he sounds right then. ;)

I was going to suggest moving it to the end but I was worried I was already treading on thin ice. I just thought a story like this should have WAY more comments and I thought it might be because a few fans like me were SO sick of seeing negative stuff on the new eps, saw that, and bailed. I made myself get past it but honestly had I been in a worse mood, I would have bailed too. Maybe you can try x-posting to sn_flashback, weechesterfic, wee_chesters, wincest_free, spn_brotherlove, papawinchester, etc. to try and catch some people that might have passed it the first time. Good luck!!

As for John, this sounds great for relaxed John. Cleaning his weapon, watching his boys, and slyly encouraging some shenanigans. ;D

Man, I love you, thank you SO MUCH for all those coms! I didn't know they existed, I would have joined at least the papawinchester a lot earlier had I known it was there. I have, now, so THANK you so much! *hugs*

You're not on thin ice with me, don't worry, I'd never be rude to people expressing their opinions. And I'd never think somebody would attack me or jump to the worst meaning, not me! :) I'm just a little worried now about putting off people with that sentence, I'd never thought it could do that, really. I understand now, I really, REALLY do, I just never thought about how it could drive people off. I think people are feeling so strongly about the show atm (myself included) that one wrong word is enough to make them explode. Weird how the show can make you feel that much, huh?

Anyhow, thank you thank you thank you for telling me about all those coms (I went to the papa-winchester-com and all those pics with JDM with the dogs... MAN I love that guy! :D), I think I have some stuff to read now! ;)
