fic: There and never back again -- Summer of Sam Love exchange

Aug 13, 2011 19:05

A/N: This was written for this year's summer_sam_love  - exchange for beamin_sunshine . Her prompt can be found at the end of the story. I hope this comes close to what you wanted for the prompt, I did the best I could, even though it might have turned out a little darker than I had planned originally. Have fun reading! :)

They are at Bobby’s (again), Dean is working on the Impala (again) and mourning someone they’ve lost (again) and not letting Sam get close (again). History repeating itself all over. - Have a feeling this is going to be so true!

Adam points at the laptop. “You’re looking for a way to save the feathered jerk’s ass.” - Couldn't help but to smile at this! :-)

This was an amazing piece of writing. I can't see how anyone could have a problem with it. I personally loved it. Thanks for sharing.

I think the story handles Cas pretty nice compared to other things I've read, but still, I've had my share of... not so nice Cas!fans and so I've put the warning there to (hopefully) keep things nice and quiet out here. :)

The funny thing about Adam was that, most of the time, he sounded more like Dean (to me) and I had to rewrite a lot of what I'd written for him, but it seems to work now so I'm just happy you like it! :)

Thank you so much!

Thank you so much. And yes, poor, poor Sam and not much comfort for him in this one... :(

This was a really solid exploration of the relationship between Sam and Adam. I don't think many people consider how tightly bonded they could easily have become in the Cage - it's a hundred years to get to know each other and to share suffering at the hands of two very powerful and highly pissed off beings. And really, once Sam's physical body is gone - there is only one solid form for Michael and Lucifer to pluck into pieces.

You did an amazing job of evolving the relationship; both the real one from the Cage and the one that only happens in Sam's head.

Wonderful, thank you for sharing.

To be honest, I don't think that you can form relationships in the cage or bond with other people there, I have never seen Hell or the cage as a place you could grasp or have sense of yourself other than feeling pain, so it was somewhat tricky to work out how close the two could have become. I'm really glad it came across believably! And, man, I don't even want to think about what happened once Sam's body was gone, Mike and Luci must have been furious... *winces*

Thank you so much, Sam's head is always a scary place to be in, I'm SO happy it worked for you! :)

Everyone's mileage will vary when it comes to what hell is. I would argue that Dean formed a very tight (if highly twisted) relationship with Alistair while he was in Hell. Given that as a background, and Sam's natural tendency to be drawn by a familial bond, I think it is highly possible that he and Adam would have found each other as the only things to cling to in any way. And honestly, I think Lucy & Mike would get a sick kick out of testing those two as a kind of angelic-brotherhood vs human-brotherhood contest.

Just some thoughts...

I think it's more my personal aversion to this concept of Hell (or Heaven for that matter), I've never seen either of them as something you would be able to understand ( ... )

A great look at Adam and Sam's relationship.

A lot of the thibngs tht 'Adam' said about Cas were spot on in my mind anyway. And I'd never really thought about the fact that if Adam and Sam were in the Cage together they would have known each other for much longer than Dean and Sam. This was a great way to explore that.

It made me so sad to realize that Sam would have known Adam ten times longer than he ever knew Dean and what's worse, for me, is that it wasn't addressed at all on the show (and I don't think they will come back to it next season) and that Adam was basically treated as a plot device... :( Not fair, if you ask me...

But still, thank you so much, I'm happy you like it!

<3 *hugs you tight*

Definitely darker than I'd expected - but I absolutely ADORE what direction you took mah prompt in. I love the idea of Sam hallucinating Adam, imagining that Adam's happy and concerned for him, to block out the reality that Lucifer and Michael... killed his soul and ate it. << Nice imagery there, btw. Have to say, I never thought of THAT, lol.

- "It’s his brother’s face, the one he’s left behind in the cage. The one he knows longer than anyone else in the entire world. The one he’s spent countless eternities with, the man he knows inside and out, in more than one sense of the word. He’s seen sides of his brother no one is supposed to see and they’ve come closer than he’s ever been with anyone else." ~ !!! MY EXACT THOUGHTS. I feel like I'm cheating on Sam&Dean when I think about Sam feeling closer to Adam (I always view them as a packaged deal), but come on. There's no way they couldn't come to know each other better than they've ever known anyone after centuries of having nothing but each other.

*gives a relieved sigh*

God, I'm so happy it wasn't too dark for you. I was so worried that maybe it would be too much hurt with little to none comfort for poor Sam. It wasn't easy to write at times, the worst parts, for me, were Sam realizing that his and Dean's relationship is more or less non-existent and that he's basically alone.

(I always view them as a packaged deal)

Me too, there is no Dean without a Sam. And vice versa.

Stupid Dean. My only regret is how far apart the boys are... I hate to see them like that.See, that's the reason why I can't watch the show anymore, why I don't really like working on anything involving season 6 and why I more or less quit the show for good. I want Sam and Dean as brothers, that's the reason I fell in love with them in the first place ( ... )
