she had a charcoal dress, held together with lint & banana peel shavings. her skin was the chalk white of kabuki dancers, & the cellophane tendrils of rope that fell from her scalp spiraled into patterns like dna strands on prom night. her sunken eye sockets reminded me of home. cracked fingernails beneath mildewed gloves...and i loved her.
