Kinda quiet around here. I thought there'd be a mass of postings seeing as we are very much in the homestretch of episodes. Oh well, must be the holidays.....
I still have to post my comments about the VCR ep, so hopefully I can get that up soon. Last batch of episodes THIS WEEK!!
Well, I'm still planning on posting my own thoughts on those eps, but right now I'm gathering my arsenal for Basic Sandwich since I have lots of caps I'm taking for my posts for that upcoming discussion to use as evidence for my arguments that I've already been touching a bit on with cgkm2099z.
So, my thoughts on those other eps should be up soon!
I've been busy working on finals for school and other end-of-year business. I've got thoughts on this batch that I just haven't had a chance to write out yet. I already re-watched the last 3 eps. - hopefully I'll be able to post on them relatively quickly.
Bondage and Beta Male Sexuality 1 lunarblue21December 9 2014, 23:42:45 UTC
First, this episode really just drives home, to me, the reasons why I can't - or ever could - truly ship Jeff/Britta because it's so fundamentally shallow, especially from Jeff's side, which is just gross, and Britta's side is hardly any better because she's always so condescending and brusque towards him, and likes to mock Jeff as much as he does her. In fact, when it comes to Nick's show ICarly, J/A mirrors Creddie whilst J/B mirrors Seddie, a ship that has often been reviled as being largely abusive because of Sam's actions towards Freddie. Britta treats Jeff with a bit more respect, but for me the similarities between those two warring ships on that show and this one stand out a lot

Combining a couple thoughts from your two posts:
It's clear that he wrangles Jeff into coming along so that Jeff can be his wingman (lol). My understanding of the situation was that Jeff gave Duncan the tip on how to get Britta to go to an event with him, and then the rest was up to Duncan. But then Annie, Shirley and Chang get involved too. Duncan can't very well tell them not to come because that would blow his cover for why he was doing it. Jeff is trying to stay out of it because he was going to let Duncan take his shot with Britta. But Duncan has to pretend to want Jeff to come because ostensibly he's doing it to benefit starving children with cleft pallets, not to get with Britta. Jeff asks Duncan for help because he's getting ripped by the group for not going to the benefit (and he wasn't going because he was trying to help Duncan get alone with Britta). But Duncan can't think of an out for Jeff and can't break cover, so he piles on the guilt trip, but he's shaking his head no while saying it because he wants Jeff to stay out.

lol, is it just me or are you and I the only ones discussing here really this week? :P Also, thanks for your reply!

Not sure about anyone else, but I've been having trouble with LiveJournal this week. Yesterday I couldn't get it to load at all until later at night. Monday was spotty. Today seems to be ok though. Not sure what's up.
I must say, it's neat that they gave Shirley two focus episodes before she faded from the show entirely, and it's really not that surprising that she'd become a "queen" of such a app game so easily since Shirley haz skills. I also like how App Development is Physical Education 2.0 in a way since once again we get to see Annie thoroughly enjoying getting to see Jeff's beauty and body on display. I feel like what Jeff was doing with those guys at the beginning was a blatant mockery of the way he once was in S1, so it's kinda meta in a way, since he doesn't view girls/women as objects anymore (though that's still something he struggles with re Britta as Bondage and Beta Male Sexuality illustrated) but I kinda feel that's what they were going for.
Also, since Jeff/Annie/Abed/Shirley are all control freaks, can you imagine the havoc and world domination they'd create if they all teamed up together? Imagine it. It would be GLORIOUS.

Advanced Advanced Dungeons and Dragons lunarblue21December 10 2014, 17:57:16 UTC
I really love how S5 always makes Annie in charge of everything and everyone else just goes along with it because they know she's right. Like, for instance, Annie is the one in the cold open to suggest Dungeons and Dragons to reunite the Hickeys, and we get some callbacks from S2 and then Jeff backs Annie's idea up.
Btw, I love the joke about Real Neil and how Jeff is about to say the disparaging name but then turns it into "fabulous Neil" as Neil is seen in the background. SO FUNNY. The callback with the Dean becoming a part of the game similarly to how Chang did it in S2's Advanced Dungeons and Dragons was also a funny continuity nod, and one I didn't notice on earlier rewatchings.
