As I read the article, the scare tactics of the WHO etc. pissed me off as well. Seriously, have they gone completely batshit? Warning labels??? A bottle of infant formula is not a pack of cigarettes. Their tactics seem so far out of left field I cannot even take their message seriously.

As somebody who's big on environmental impurities and contamination, I can say that I'd rather many people's kids have formula than the medications, chemical additives, pollutants, synthesized hormones, funkily constituted transfats and fake sugars, parabens, propyls, petroleums, and cigarette smoke they're currently transmitting via their breastmilk. Lots of people eat loads of bad stuff, spray themselves with stuff, wash themselves with stuff, dose themselves with stuff, wear patches with stuff in them, and then their breasts try to make milk out of fluids that contain toxins. In the case of someone like my best friend (nice girl, extremely toxic lifestyle) I didn't argue a bit when she wanted to give up breastfeeding for some nice clean formula ( ... )

You know me and breastfeeding. I guess I was one of the lucky ones that was able to go for a long time, but I haven't found that to be too common. I also had more support than you did, but even with that at times I got very frustrated. G needed the breastmilk supplemented with a bit of cereal early on because he was hungry. M2 also went on feeding strikes but she was a little bit older, about 8 months, and we accidentally figured out that she needed solid food because the milk just wasn't enough. Drinking it caused her belly to hurt so she'd strike. I'm sorry you had to go through that essentially alone.

But, on the up side, he seems to be quite the healthy boy. And, as you said, most of us were raised on formula, so what do they know? :)
