An Entry into the Rouscher Manner

Jun 18, 2007 10:47

(Whoa, getting dizzy with all the fantabulous posts! As far as I know, there are seven guests of Rouscher Manner (including myself), so before I post the next section of the story, I will wait until everyone has posted either the inbetween part for their character, or events leading up to them getting there, or whatever pops out of their head. The sun slowly sank into the horizon, it's blood pooling on that distant shore like red waves draining away to nothing. Vlad stood in front of his dressing table, his dark complexion rosy, his thin lips downturned slightly as his thoughts pushed against the unpleasant past, never dipping into those waters, but always skimming just above the surface. He tugged at the knot of his tie, straightened his jacket, smoothed down the lapels, in short, made every nervous gesture he could to an outfit that was immaculate. At any rate, there was no mirror to reveal whether any of this had any effect on his appearance, and if there had been a mirror it would have contained no reflection, the curse having obliterated that over twenty years ago. Finally realizing the futility, he grabbed his exotic headress and pulled it down over his head, then headed for the door. He lifted a large brown paper bag, and something metallic inside clattered against something glass, which was followed by the sound of sloshing liquid. He peered down at the neat red bow ( ... )

(I've scheduled you to arrive after refreshments are served, which is tomorrow. But I still don't know how you're arriving to the party. And yup, it'll be nightfall. I've had people arriving based on their posts.)

Edward, dear friend, could you help me find Ebony when you're done chaperoning Miss Nosy? I've this very rare Mexican fish I'm sure she'd like to taste.

Certainly, Jonathan. She should in the library; Ebony never did have much of a liking for company, but I'm sure she'll be please to see you and more so your fish.

Ah, well then I am delighted to tell you that I might as well follow you to the library, dear sirs. You see I brought a tin of fine tuna for Ebony, and I'm sure she would be pleased to have two gifts at once.
Edward I notice that some items are missing, would the household be undergoing some remodling? And Jonathan, if you had nothing to hide then I wouldn't need to be so "nosy", would I? Now tell me, when will I be allowed a good look at your aircraft?

Oh but I assure you that I have nothing to hide from you [well, at least not this time], but it's a matter of privacy dear... I don't inspect you home either, now do I?
As for my plane, if you really insist on it [and frankly, I hope you do, it'll be an hihglight to see you get scared senseless] you're more than welcome to do so. *chukkles*

Thank you for the dry clothing, Miss Smith; I do hope that Edward will not be discomfited by your generosity.

Now, I would like to eat something dainty; to converse about unimportant things with interesting people; and to place this engagement gift upon a stack of similar, and doubtless more sumptuous, presents. Might I assume that all three goals might be accomplished in the parlor?

You'd be exactly right sir. If you'd just follow me please.

On his way out of the kitchen, the Admiral paused for a moment to inspect a tray of pastries, each one wrapped in wax paper. He quickly stuffed one into his jacket pocket, then hurried to catch up with Stephanie.

Priscilla greeted Cynthia warmly, glad to see the rosy cheeks of youth on her face. "And how have you been, my dear?" Priscilla kneeled down on the ground to be on level eyes with the darling child. Her gaze purposefully missing Edward's ( ... )

Adella sighed heavily and patted her forehead lightly with a hankerchief. Entertaining her guests was very tiring, but she felt it was best to see how Benjamina was coming along.

The Rouscher's had an unfortunate habit of sleeping in late and Benjamina was a Rouscher second to none. She had risen at one o'clock that very day and had immediatly set out for half the morning in the courtyard attempting to find her glove that had gone missing a few months back. After a brief scolding by Adella, Benjamina set to work getting dressed for the celebration, deciding to wear her long sleeved red gloves, rather than the short black ones she had been hoping on.

Adella knocked on the door quietly. "Benjamina?" She inquired quietly.

"Yes?"

"Are you almost ready? You know you should have been down there with me greeting the guests."

Benjamina nodded. "Yes, I know.... You know how forgetful I am at times. It just... happens. But, I'm getting ready now, isn't that enough?"

Adella sighed. "I suppose so. But if you don't hurry up I' ( ... )

Priscilla found Adella in the hall way right after the refreshment bell sounded.

She quickly pulled her aside, telling her about what was in the large box.

"I want them to come out during my toast at the party. Hopefully she'll like them so much she'll want them in the wedding."

Edwin found that the reunion with Adella was surprisingly less awkward and in fact, to the contrary, gratifying beyond his expectations. In fact, each step forward drew him deeper into an unexpectedly soothing web of nostalgia. As he soaked in the welcome ghosts of gone days, he animatedly assured Adella as to the superiority of his gift - all without betraying a shred of detail or referencing it's intended recipient ( ... )
