Do people still use AIM? It used to be my secondary source of communication, now I think I just hide away until I'm forced to speak with someone. I don't know where all this social anxiety is coming from, but what can you do?

I'd like to know who of you actually do use AIM. I'm thinking it would be a good way for me to start communicating with ( Read more... )

As far as I can see it, AIM is defunct. I believe I had and used it through my first year at LSU, but I got a new computer and the program was never re-installed. Months later, upon realizing that I no longer chatted with friends via the internet, I decided that AIM was ultimately nothing more than a forum for time-squandering small talk. I knew that I'd always keep up with the friends that mattered most to me, and, as such, I was able to acknowledge that the conveniences of an online chat service were easily superseded by an occasional telephone call or e-mail. In short, the internet is already distracting enough as it is; don't make it worse but installing some nonsense, chit-chat service that'll monopolize your time even more.

I still use it, although I pretty much only talk to Jrod (daily) and my brother (infrequently).

I used to use AIM constantly. But then...I just stopped. I use gmail chat now, which is awesome and I love it. Email and chatting in one window, and you can use it at work super easy. Granted not everyone has a gmail account, but most people do. And facebook have taken over that "stalker" aspect of checking peoples' away messages constantly.

You know, it really has. I think the facebook was the downfall of AIM for me. I didn't so much have conversations- which now that I have less time I do by email- as I left messages or made a mass invite. Plus, as earlier mentioned, I'm not a fan of stupid small talk.
