looking back a bit

and realizing that I was at my best last spring, when I was teaching fellow Dartmouthites about education, the "other", and life in general, when I was updating my journal many times daily, even if only to write about playing basketball, enjoying pain, tr ying to score with four different girls (but i would have stopped at one--i'm not a monster ( Read more... )

What were you trying too hard to do?

It seems to me, if you have to "try" to be a certain way in your journal, it's most likely not an accurate representation of yourself.

But nonetheless, I'm glad to see you posting again. :-D

well, i guess "trying" is not really what I meant. I meant to refer to the phenomenon where after watching Pulp Fiction I'll curse like a motherfucker for a day, or after listening to The Chronic I'll have an extra bounce in my step. after reading Emily's stuff I'll be more verbose and majestic, be more literate and my fear is that the Emily component of the amalgam that is me will be momentarily too prominent and thus will alter my voice. Actually, that's not a fear. I dig it, myself. For some reason last night I just felt that the first paragraph of this post was a bit trite to be following my entry on Mariah from yesterday afternoon...

at any rate, thanks for keeping me among your friends. =)

Don't thank me just yet . . .

You should know I deleted you from my friends list a few weeks ago . . . but then realized how awful I would feel if I missed posts should you ever decide to come back, and re-friended you two days later.

Just because I'm ridiculously loyal doesn't mean I'm not entitled to having a few second thoughts, right?

Hi there! I hope all is well with you (although rest assured I'll do some back-reading to see what's up).

Did you know that Jonesville, VA is 450 miles from DC? You probably did. I had no idea Virginia is so big...

Actually I didn't know that! VA is a big ol place, I remember it took an awfully long time to go on vacation to Williamsburg.

And everything is very well with me. I assume you'll have quiet a bit of back reading to do, you've been gone quiet a long while! :)

Justin, you've got to know what a huge compliment I take it as for you, who I consider to be extremely talented, to say anything postive about my writing. There are several different ways to write anything--some people are good at dialogue, others can imagine a great transition or big picture, others can do well with a smaller idea. There will never be one style to anything, ever.

And there was something you wrote about Mariah that I thought was beautiful (it all was, but in particular). Let me find it...

so you write that you love her, and you say it out loud as the two of you go to sleep that night. you tell her that she doesn't need to say it back, but that you feel it and you thought that she should know this fact and carry it with her every day. indeed she doesn't say it back. she doesn't want to love anybody really. she starts to cry--not weeping, but leaking tears from her eyes--and tells you that you are the first person that has ever said that to her. she is 20 years old and you realize that this is the saddest thing ( ... )

Well, thanks. You could probably guess that your words mean a lot to me, so thanks. I would also LOVE some sort of email exchange, so please give me a holler.
