I'm not sure why my mother never mentioned this freakish daily occurrence of her childhood until now, but apparently, it's a Polish tradition upon entering a house to say:

“Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus” (Praised be Jesus Christ)

And the person in the home responds:

“Na wieki wieków. Amen!” (Forever and ever. Amen.)

I'm sorry, but if anyone ever says "pochwaloney" in front of me, I'm going to bust out laughing. It doesn't even fit in looks wise with the other words.

Please don't tell me she's having those who enter the home say that now?

Nah, but I was at Cioci Vicky's and she was showing me some old letters from people in Poland. And she was saying they all start out by saying "Praised be Jesus Christ" or another prayer. And then my mom was like, oh yeah, like the thing you say when you come in the house. And then Cioci started rambling about how at Christmas when the priest came to bless the home, they'd all have to kneel down and kiss his hand. Ridiculous.
