Taxes. Ugh.

Doing taxes. Filing jointly for the first time. Weeping in frustration at the amount of money we're expected to hand off to the government where it will undoubtedly be pissed away.

Met with mortgage broker. Will get kick-ass rates. Yay for cronyism. Also, Californian mortgage brokers scoff at the pittance it takes to buy a house in MI.

When we bought our house, (and still now) we get tired of hearing "You paid that much for your house? In Michigan, you could buy a [insert room-by-room description of the palatial mansion]. Blah, blah, blah.

Hehe. Yeah, mostly I get reactions of shocked surprise from Californians when I tell them how much we plan to spend on a house and what that will buy us in MI. I've actually met a few couples now who are planning on fleeing CA because they want houses and can't afford them here.
