Three-quarters of the way through I was really confused, then I felt stupid and subsequently unhappy, but then I reached the end and IT ALL MADE SENSE. That ending was fantastic and what a brilliantly-executed idea, Lucifer is perfect with his cruelty and quiet comfort on that dirt road in Hell.

And Sam... oh, Sam. His nightmares are so potent because they're not all about demons, but accidents and abandonment and this was so good! (Once I stopped feeling stupid. :P)

This is brilliant.

I think one of the most neglected bits of canon is Sam's line in the Pilot: "Not normal. Safe." Sam wanting a normal life and then not wanting it any more is a big part of his story, but there's that more basic level it's easy to forget, how much his life is shaped by fear, and how at some rock bottom level Sam feels that that is something even Dean is indifferent to, won't save him from. And to have Lucifer take that and run with it, gah.

This is absolutely mind-bogglingly terrifying and perfect and horrendously frightening and just confusing enough and oh my GOD I need to go read something happy before I tear my hair out and start crying.
