okay, i spent $41 in borders today. and over half of that went to buying the first tpb of the young avengers. it's so AWESOME! :) yeah, wiccan and hulkling are brilliant (and canon!) and the whole deal with iron lad was very interesting. i almost bought the novel, a very long engagement. but borders didn't have a copy of it in french and i would've ( Read more... )

Whorey is hated for two reasons:

1) he's Canadian, and plays for England on the basis that his father is English.

2) people don't watch Bundesliga and don't realize how useful he can be. "he's useless" seems to be the most popular insult directed toward him.

I personally defend Hargreaves whenever I can, because I enjoy how effectively versatile he is, but the truth is, he really hasn't played up to his potential on the English NT as he does at Bayern on a(n almost) regular basis. :|

wouldn't it be hard for hargreaves to play to his potential with the way he's put into national team games? it seems to me that he's more of a sub that goes into a variety of positions on an inconsistent basis. i just think it's rather mean to boo him. after all, he didn't decide that england was the best team to play for out of all the ones he could have picked? i would think that would be taken as complimentary and make him more liked.

then again, i haven't seen him play much before so i wouldn't really know. :P i was just curious because i've seen so many negative comments about him before but didn't know why. thanks for clarifying. :)

That's a really observant comment, and I'd say pretty accurate as well. Sven uses him as a utility sub, which definitely does not highlight his strengths as a player. With only brief glimpses of what he can do, I think a lot of England fans feel like he simply hasn't "done enough" to warrent a spot on the team. And England fans will be the first ones to tell you that they can boo who they damn well please (SIGH); Whorey hasn't been the first and he won't be the last.

Sven never starts him and only uses him when he's making one of his idiotic substitutions, so it does appear that the England team play worse when he appears, even though it's the coach's fault, not the players. The other thing that's missed is that due to Sven's incompetance, he's also the only truly left sided midfield player that England have brought to the World Cup. You may also like to know that David Beckham has been standing up for him in the papers today.

I think I fall in love with Robert Sean Leonard a little more each time I watch Dead Poets Society, especially that last shooting scene.
