And my life is forever changed. For the better, I hope.

I've joined the rank of file of the forever-altered. I'm a fellow hyster-sister. After many assorted girlie problems, I finally had a total hysterectomy last week, along with some other bladder work. I have not back-read any posts from my friends, and don't plan in doing so, because there is just too much and I can't sit at this computer chair ( Read more... )

Thank you! I'm looking forward to no longer hurting-- and getting rid of this darn catheter today! (Hope it will remain off..... have to see how much comes out vs. what went in, I guess.)

(it''s later now-----)

And so far, it gets to stay out! Yippee!! If you can't piddle on your own, it has to go back in. But I've been making frequent trips to the throne room so they told me congratulations!

I had mine when I was in my mid forties because of problems. They needed to make an abdominal incision because I had fibroids which were the size (the doctor said) of a 5 month fetus. They had to cut a big slab off before they could even get to my mommy-organs. I've never regretted it for a minute.

The freedom from messy problems is like a gift. And I was through having children. You go through whatever menopausal symptoms you're going to anyway. I was fortunate to have few.

I am 48, so at least I had it all for as long as I needed it! (Definitely done having the kids, too... in fact, I'm learning to survive the empty nest thing.)

Oh, heavens, I'm glad I wasn't in YOUR shoes! The removal of the slab sounds incredibly painful! I was lucky enough to be able to have it all removed vaginally-- he even got both ovaries, but if he wasn't able to, we weren't going to sweat it because there were no current worries about the ovaries at present. I can't wait to get the the totally recovered stage. Everyone I KNOW said they've never regretted it; many say it's the best decision they've ever made.

The doctor took my ovaries, too. They were beginning to grow fibroids of their own. I guess if your garden is not quite free of weeds and your house has messy places here and there, your insides are the same!:^)

I remember the first day as very painful. I kept asking for shots before it was time. And I held my stomach to buffer. But by the time I went home after about 4 days, I didn't need pain pills anymore.

LOL! Love your analogy; that's my house and gardens for sure! Now you get to self-medicate with some push-button thingie (set for a maximum so you can't OD or anything) but they do send you home quicker. I went in for Tues afternoon surgery and went home after dinner on Thursday. And I even threw up non-stop for the first 24 hours-- it was awful!

Glad your op went well, and hope you're soon feeling better than your old self. Enjoy the rest, even if it is enforced. Nice to see you post again.

Thanks! I'm enjoying the rest, but confinement is already getting to me! My doctor said I could drive as soon as I was no longer taking any pain med, and I'm not really anymore (an occassional 600 mgibuprofin) but I have never needed the vicoden they gave me.... but hubby keeps hearing from everyone else how they weren't allowed to drive for weeks, so I am not allowed to either!!!

Oh well, I suppose that's for the best... because the minute he sees that I was able to drive somewhere for myself, I'm sure all my other spoilings will end! (And I've been sort of thrilled with his daily phone calls on what he should bring home or prepare for our next meal! I better live it up now, because it'll never happen again, I'm sure.
