One thing I've noticed and been rather curious about for some time:

Why do people censor themselves? Now, I hardly mean this in some larger, deeper sense where, oh ho, we censor our true thoughts and desires and whatnot. No, quite literally. People can't seem to use full profane words, yet they're willing to use half, or one fourth, or well, ( Read more... )

That works, and its absolutely brilliant.

See, it kills me to see people say f*** you. It sounds worse than a clean, simple, fuck you. If you take the time to reword and make up something witty, or colorful, thats fantastic.

I have on occasion when family is around and I start out say F and can't think of a better curse with f.

I censor myself because my grandma starts having heart palpitations when I say "damn" and my friends with small children don't want me teaching them how to say "fuck you, asshole" because their friends will take care of that in first grade. It's out of consideration for the people around me.

I also think it sounds far more intelligent (and is often more scathing) if you can come up with a way to express yourself that involves neither real cuss words nor watered-down versions like "crap."

That said? I think it's ridiculous to say "F that" instead of "fuck that." We know what you mean; you just sound like a pussy.

Agreed. With the grandma and children bit, I try to just, not use anything at all around them.

But omgsh, the F-that people. Augh.
